Guaging interest on custom throttle body for nikki manifold
I am currently working a throttle body to be used on the stock Nikki intake manifold. This project originally started out as an alternative to the 500+ dollar throttle bodies (not even including intake manifold). I am planning on using the same throttle butterflies as the stock Nikki carb. This should flow extremely well considering the throttle body will not have all of the restrictions that a carb has (venturis and booster venturis). There will be 4 injectors (1 per barrel) which will enable the use of FC NA injectors which are fairly abundant. I will also be developing fuel rails for the application and providing for easy use of a throttle position sensor. With the development of Megasquirt we finally have a cost effective way of controlling fuel injection. Now it is time that we have a cost effective solution for EFI hardware. I can't quote a definate figure yet but I can tell you that it will be considerably cheaper than any bolt-up system out there. I will only offer this option after I have thoroughly tested the setup on my own vehicle but I wanted to put this out here to see if there was any interest. Any questions, comments, or suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

I would be interested. The autonomics guy makes a holley TB for $80. No TPS spot, though, and doesnt include anything else.
Can you set it up with an IAC fitting as well? That'd be nice to have.
I would pay around 300-350 for everything, including a custom machined TB, the TPS, rail, and IAC.

That is the price range that I'm shooting for. The more interest that there is, the cheaper that it will be because most of the machining I will have to contract out. I am doing all of the design work and fabricating the fuel rails, TPS mount, ect. I'm looking into using the stock Nikki TPS but I need to see if it meets the requirements for use with Megasquirt. Since the throttle body is designed to replace the Nikki it would be most cost-effective to make use of whatever parts from it as are practical. I am definately going to use the throttle butterflies from a Nikki and possibly the linkage. I will try to get the finished product on a flowbench when I get to that point to give an idea of performance potential.

The Nikki in question is the carb on the 12a. I COULD make one for the GSL-SE but I don't see a reason to since it is already compatible with aftermarket EFI systems and I believe that you can upgrade to an FC unit for more flow. Injectors could not be mounted in the GSL-SE (or FC) throttle body because of the dynamic chamber (lets just say it would cause MANY problems).
This particular throttle body could be used on an older model 13B that used a Nikki carb (assuming that the bolt pattern is the same).
Also, regarding the Idle Air Control I will definately look into it as it is something that I would like to have since the prototype unit will be used on my daily driver in cold weather with many cold-starts. Thanks for the suggestion!

If you need somebody to test it as an EFI setup, let me know. I'll have a spare stand alone ECU and car to play with before too long.
It would be cool to have a FI system that looks exactly like the stock setup. B)
Are you going to machine these from a piece of metal, or alter a stock carb somehow?

I am tossing around both ideas. My original idea was to use the bottom section of the carb as the throttle body and machine a spacer for underneath it to mount injectors in. I would, however, like to look into having the entire unit machined from aluminum for a cleaner, more lightweight look. It will come down to what people want and cost.
I probably will need someone to test it out and let those who are interested in the product know what you think of it.

I think this is an awesome idea..
I've wanted to make my fb EFI since the day I got it, the only thing stopping me has been what to do about a TB/intake manifold, and this solves both!

I'm also going to look into fabricating various accesories, including the standard 4 barrel air filter, an adapter to make it easy to install a cold air intake, and a TURBO hat.
