Guage installation?

Guage installation?
I was just wondering where to put the probe of a water temperature guage, and the fitting of an oil pressure guage. I have an 85 with a 12a and the stock guages dont work, is it possible to use the stock locations, if so where are they and if not what can i do? thanks.

well all my other guages work, just the temperature and oil pressure guages seem to be intermittant and ive heard that they can be prety iffy, so i went out and got a few aftermarket guages just to be safe. I just wanted to know the easiest place to mount the sensors basically.

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
Your other option is to get a 1/8" pipe tap (if that's what the aftermarket gauge is) and tap out the oil press. hole. On the water temp, assuming it's an electrical connection, you can rig up a bung to the backside of the waterpump, or, to the place just above the oil press. sensor.

Don't tap anything! You can get and adaptor for the oil pressure to fit at Autozone. Then for water temp there is a hex plug on the drivers side engine block at the bottom front side. You will have to feal around to find it. If you have your ac out it will be easy to find. It will just screw right in. By the way these are Autometer senders.

Isn't that plug on the bottom the place for the plug-in heater? Not a good idea to take that out in Winnipeg!
As for the oil pressure sender I replaced mine with a stock one and it's worked great every since. When they're working I find the stock guages to be fine... But to each their own I guess.

well then, where can I put my temperature sensor as it has a fairly large probe and I want to keep my block heater? also if I was to put a T fitting on the oil lines under the beehive oil cooler would this be adequate for oil pressure or does it have to be in the stock location? any other ideas on where to put these sensors would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

The stock location works fine, just use that adaptor. As to the water temp, you can tap it out, but you could get metal shavings in there. Which is no good. There should be a sensor by the radiator hose at the top by your water pump. On a 13B it is for the idle or something( help me out on this one).

My oil pressure guage came with a 1/8" BSP fitting, is the correct one for the stock location, and if so could anyone possibly post a pic of where the oil pressure sender location is because Im unsure where it is. By the way my car has emmissions systems removed and also the A/C so its prety easy to see in the area I just want to be sure, Thanks.

I have had a temp.switch in the upper radiatior hose, but I feel this is not a good place to use a temp.switch(for a electric fan)
Because when driving on highway's (or autobahns) the coolant in the radiator will cool more than enough, but the engine coolant temps will rice slowly. Basicly, I don't care what the temps in the rad will be, but I want to know the engine temps, and let them switch the electric fan off and on.....
anyone care to comment?
what would be a nice "switching temp" ? 97-90 degrees? or 95-86 degrees?
