gslse vs s, gs, gsl

I just picked up a gslse LSD rear for 150.00. The whole setup springs, aftermarket shocks, calipers, rotors. The reason I bought it was for the bolt pattern and limited slip and disc rear of course. Cuz my rx7 is an 84 gs, with drum rear. Well my question is. What's the difference in the front suspension of a s, gs, gsl, and gslse? I was thinking just give the front hubs to a friend who's a machinist to drill them 4x114.3 instead of buying the whole gslse front suspension. He'll do it for free of course. Or maybe just buy gslse front hubs and switch mine out. (84 gs being big bearing) any opinions?

well, back in the day, when RE Speed was under Billy's ownership and you could recieve parts when you ordered them, you could have gotten a kit adapter. This kit had a spacer that allowed the outer FC bearing to work on the FB (83.5 - 85 only had big bearing front too) and the inner bearing for these years was the same as FC.

then you could run base model four lug hugs and the kit had a plate to hold the calipers.

Might be able to find that used.

alternatively, find the GSLSE hub assembley.

as far as redrilling, i dont remember if there was enough material to space out from 110 to 114.3

the S/GS/GSL suspensions are all the same. the GSL-SE has stiffer shocks and larger brakes, but otherwise is the same as the others.

the bearings change, 79-82 and 83+ but they apply to every model

Why not just get the GSL-SE front rotors and calipers and be done?

That's what I would do...if everything is the same then I would just swap the hubs. I've heard that the control arms are a bit different but I've never been able to compare them side by side to see....

Gslse calipers will bolt right up to the gs strut? Wouldn't the gs caliper bracket have to be longer since the gslse rotor is larger? diameter

You are correct. I was a little simplistic in my answer. It would require the backing plate, rotor, caliper, caliper bracket, caliper hose, and brake pads. Basically all the stuff that bolts to the strut.

So I might as well get the whole front strut assembly. That way its a direct swap. Correct? (strut, caliper, brake line, rotor, hub)

Correct. That way you're leveraging into what an army of Mazda engineers created. But I'd also suggest you get a proportion valve out of a GSL-SE to complete your conversion.

OK. Am I going to need the master brake booster also?

I believe the booster for 12a cars and the se were the same, they just changed the proportioning valve iirc
