thats a real good question!! But I can tell you this, when you put the kind of work in to a car like your "7", you will most of the time "not" recoup any of those monies...You did a lot to your car and I have seen pictures of your car, but you just will not get your money back. The car is just not the investment of a msutang for example (and I have 3 64-66 mustangs)..early "7" just are not appreciating ...at this time....as far as I can tell., Although you will see$6000, 7000 rx7 for sale, I doublt they will sell for that. But then again, if you catch that "right " person who likes and wants everything you did to your car, then you may be lucky. But don't count on it. Myself, I am a purist and would be more apt to pay a bigger buck for a stock, unmolested "7"....mileage to me is also key...most people don't like the 140,000 miles cars...unless they get it cheap. I just sold a stock 83 gsl with awesome leather interior , over all condition of the car was a "9" (1-10)...it had just turned 85,000 miles and it was babyed big time. sweeeeeeet car....sold it for 2900.00 ...it was not a se though. Bottom line, in my opinion, "your" car ( and I have not seen it physically) I guestimate it worth (or would sell for ) between 3500-4500.....and you are probalby loosing money too (right??) BUt you never know.....Good luck in your sale.....cjf

$3000-$3500

My -SE was pretty ratty, but with a strong motor and drivetrain, and I sold it for $1400. It had 154K on it too.

This car will not be an easy sell unless I wanted to sell it
for 3 grand. I guess I would probably just let it sit around
for that price. If I got upwards of 4 grand I would sell.
If I got any offers upwards of 5 grand it would be gone.

I would have to agree with one of the previous response in that I to am a purist. I’ve been restoring cars all of my life from MGB to 560SL and I can tell you that the closer you keep the car to its original state the more money people are willing to pay.

I am new to the RX-7 with a recent purchase of an ’85 GSL-SE with 100K original miles in great shape; although, the materials that were used in building these cars were not the best I’m working on some interior areas that appeared to have disintegrated with time. I paid $1000 for it!

I have noticed that most of the people involved with these cars are young. Not that I’m old, is just that they are in their early 20’s. They take these cars and poor a bunch of money in trying to make them into a racecar. As they get older, and loose interest in the car, they want to sell them for what they have (a small fortune) and find out that no one is willing to pay their asking price because those wanting to get into these cars (if in their 20’s) do not have the money and are wanting to build the car slowly as money allows them, plus they want to enjoy doing it.

I do not want to dishearten your with you car. I want to let you know that in order for a car to reach real value with time it is best to keep it as original as possible.

Good luck!!

Sorry, Buckaroo...

Most folks are ignorant, misinformed, and afraid of rotaries.
"I am but a caveman, your engine of spinning triangles confuses and frightens me....Do not come any closer, or I might soil myself."

This means we can pick up Sevens really cheaply, but it also means that only rotary folks appreciate 'em. Bottom line is I paid only $2000 for an '84 SE, rust-free, tight, and auto-X prepared. I got my other SE for One Dollar....And just yesterday picked up a 2nd gen GXL (abandoned, but whole), for nothing but the tow bill.

Your car is a beauty, no question, but you'd get twice or more for that MGA sittin' next to it. Given the present prices for Seven's I'm afraid you're not going to see more than $2500....

But then they're our addiction, right? What can you do, or say? As the Poet Blake explained...You gain experience, but lose innocence....The ying and yang...Did he who made the tiger also make the lamb?

Just wandering the backroads,
Denny, from the 'ol corncrib.... :p

Well I can see where you guys are coming from, most of the people dont want to buy a car that has any mods to it. Stock
is boring for me though, I think my car looked rather dated
when I had original paint with pinstripes and 14 in original rims.
I cant sell the car for 2500 bucks, man the paint job costed more
than that. I dont expect to get out of what I put into it though,
since I put like 8 grand or so in mods on it. The thing is I will not
be driving this car at all. I drove it a total of 1000 miles this summer. Once I buy a 3rd gen or supra when will I ever get
to drive the 7. I probably will drive it 100 miles next year, then
change the oil and put it in storage again.

BTW the MGA was restored to all original specs.
