gsl-se - test driving and modding questions.
i saw an extremely mint gsl-se the other day and i am thinking about buying it. I really cant believe the how great the exterior looks. I had a 81' GSL about 10 yrs ago and always wanted the GSL-SE. I wasnt interested in modding in those days but if i was to buy this car i would have intentions of spending some cash on modding but definately not go crazy. This car is just too nice to pass up, so...
Is there anything in particular that i should look for when test driving? Any common issues i should identify?
How much money is necessary to mod the car to the point where it can run 13s? I would like to keep the main cat in place. Can u list parts and prices please? ----I really would like to keep the car somewhat civilized and reliable. My FD is loud and stinky....i dont want this car to be the same.
Thankls for the help. All of my rx-7 knowledge (modding and otyherwise) is very limited to the FD so please forgive the newbie type questions.

You will be able to see the port actuator rods on the lower intake manifold move at around 3.5-4k rpm
Be sure to check the bins for rust as you said. but other than that, if it looks good, runs good and drives straight, it's probably a good car.
I think you will be hard pressed to get into the 13's without some porting or a power adder.

Oh, modding is fairly similar to your FD. Exept no turbos to play with. Exhaust should be your first priority. I have Racingbeats full road race exhaust on my SE and it sounds very nice (not too loud) A full exhaust along with some sort of cold air intake maybe some pineapple racing six port sleeve inserts and some suspension work will net you a quick, reliable and satisfying car to drive.
Enjoy,

My mods are in my sig and I am PRAYING for high 13's once I get everything tuned.

ooooo, I dunno, Those S5 rotors might give you the upper hand
Atkins wanted like a thousand bucks for the rotor upgrade and I didn't have the cash.

Damn, cost me about $125 buck buying used rotors from some forum members.
But I no longer have the 3mm apex seals which is a little disappointing,
Also in my rebuild the housings, rotors and all will be used so the compression wont be a high as yours most likely.
In the future I plan to run a Microtech, then Ill be hoping for 13's
