GSL-SE running rich

1984 GSL-SE it is real easy to flood it at startup and when you get it running it backfires almost constantly. Idle = not really (most likely caused my me not getting things set correctly) it stays around 1000 rpms for a sec and then falls to below 100 and coughs and bucks.

After searching the forums I have checked the AFM and it is functioning properly. The next thing i need to check is fuel pressure. The problem is i am not familiar with checking that. Should I check it after the regulator? In the shop manual it shows it pretty much under the intake.
Also I can not get the test lights to light in the tps setting proceedure. I got it idleing before by setting it with a meter to the range stated in the manuals. Is it possible the ECU is not functioning correctly?

Do any of the great gsl-se gurus have any ideas? Am i even going in the right direction?

Thank you for any assistance.

Ryan
