OR GSL-SE no power

I have a 1985 GSL-SE that was running very well then while driving one day it acted like it backfired and now it has no power and doesn't isle well. I have tested the compression and although a little low is fine. Any help would be appreciated.

Any other symptoms. Recent history. Tune up, fuel filter change, plugs etc. When was all that done?

Re

It acts just like a fuel pump or fuel filter. It has new plugs, wires, cap, and fuel pump and filter since it runs fine but does hunt between 1000 and 1200 rpm where it idles. if you push on the accelerator pedal it will start to rev up and if you only push it in a little ways it will get all the way to 5500rpm but if you give it too much pedal it sputters and drops back down near idle.

I can't really understand what you are saying----it's sounds confusing to me. Anyway, I've had backfiring before and poor performance on several occasions on different cars. It ended up either being a cracked distributor cap or a severe vac leak. From what you are describing I wonder if your TPS is bad. Since you changed your dist cap, are you sure it's seated and latched? How about your plug wires----are they going to the correct locations? I'm no expert here, but if all checks out ok, I probably would look to see if the flapper in the Air Flow Meter is not hanging up on acceleration.
