GSL-SE: loosing power
I all, I am new to the forums, I have done a few searches, and found nothing like my problem, hope I am not blind. My 1984 GSL-SE looses power after it warms up, it drives fine from the time it starts cold till the temp gauge gets to normal operating temp. What happens as it warms up is that it will slowly loose it's ability to maintain RPMs, even with it floored, until all I can do is put her in 1st, and let it limp home at 10 mph down the shoulder. I recently noticed that a metal line running from the cat. to what looks to be engine vac was loose on the engine side, hanging down, and not knowing how important, or what it was, I clamped it off. as it is in its run like crap mode, if I do floor the accelerator, I hear what sounds like a hissing sound comming from under the car, somewhere close to the cat I think... Does anyone have any Ideas?
thanks for your time,
Christopher King
p.s. I have also posted this over at RX7 City, just to get the max input possible, I did however search both sites, and goggled everything I could think of. Thanks for looking

Could be a sensor issue. If it runs fine when cold, but runs like crap once it is warm and the computer "wakes up" and starts trying to run things, then I would be on a bad sensor.
You might want to PM a moderator and ask them to add the term GSL-SE to your title. That will get the attention of the fuel injection experts. Good luck.

Title fixed. Go to the 1st gen FAQ section on here. There is a link for the 1985 Factory Service Manual. Download at least section 4B. This covers engine related stuff for the GSL-SE. There is a flow chart in there that tells you what to check if losing power when the engine is warm. The FSM can also tell you how to test/fix each part.
That small tube hanging down is for the 5/6 ports. These open at higher RPM/load and give for top-end power. Hook the tube back up. There should be a large hose that comes down to a metal cone shape piece. The small tube connects near there. The large tube carries air to inject into the catalytic converter.
Prospect, huh? I'm probably the only one on here that actually knows where that is. I grew up in Phoenix, OR..just south of Medford. Then spent several years up in Corvallis for my MS and PhD at OSU. I've only been over on the East Coast for about 1.5 years.

I would probably get a new piece. Check out the 1st gen classified section on here and search to see who is parting out a GSL-SE. Most will have this part and will probably be cheap as it is not a part that is sought after. There is a check valve in there (allow flow only one way). Also it has to live near a lot of heat, so best to get the right part. I could take a pic or two of mine to show how it is supposed to look.

thanks I will head over there now, so its not common for these things to just snap hu? my whole exhaust system leaks like crazy too, a lot of the studs are busted clean off... wish I knew an easy/fairly cheap way to fix all that damage, as I am sure that it leaking out of every joint isn't good for my health, or performance... any idea what type of thread the studs are under there?
thanks again...
thanks again...

I had a gsl-se that would run great for a couple of miles as it warmed up then lose power. The problem was rust in the fuel tank. The rust would collect in the small cone shaped filter in the fuel line inlet to the fuel pump.
