Gsl-Se fuel filter question.
Hello everyone,,,
Today I was changing my fuel filter on my 85 GSL-SE and in my haste I did not keep track of the hose coming from the fuel pump..
If you are looking at the car from the back,,, I hooked the hose thats on the drivers side to the banjo fitting with the short metal line, ( the end facing down side ) and the end facing up is connected to the hose on the drivers side on the fuel pump.. I took her out for a drive and seems to be running fine but I want to be sure.. Thanks you guys

As long as the new filter is in the same position as the one that came off, you should be fine.
NOTE: There is a screen mesh cone inside the rubber hose leading into the fuel filter. Remove that and clean it out. Good chance it's clogged up to hell.

when you say same postion you mean that the filter is correct up and down? Also above Ide like to make a change the banjo fitting with the small metal line is connected to the passengers side (not the Drivers,) I just reread the post

Does your new filter resemble the exact same position as the old one? Their bottom end is tapered and the top end has a "collar" on it. If this is how your filter looks, you got it installed right.
Don't forget that screen cone in the fuel line to the fuel pump.

Yes, that is the correct way. After last night, I decided to check myself. It's collar on the bottom, tapered end on the top. Don't know why I thought it was the other way around.
Yes, you have it mounted correctly.

Help!
Which fuel hose is the cone screen filter in, and how do you get to it? Do you remove the end pieces that bolt to the filter and if so which one? Also, which way does the fuel flow through the filter? Thanks.

There is a rubber fuel hose that leads into the left side of the fuel pump. The other end of the fuel pump is threaded and houses the banjo fuel line and OMP.
Remove the rubber hose end on the left side of the fuel pump, the little cone screen is inside there. Good chance that it's covered in gunk.
And, the fuel flows through the filter from the top down to the bottom. You'll see when you're under the car and looking at it.

Thank you. The filter itself was nasty but the little screen in the hose wasn't that bad. However I think the fuel pump is dead. I jumpered it with a 12V power to the plug and disconnected the hose but still no flow. Could it have gotten overworked and burned out from the clogged filter? It was running when it was parked.
What is the recommended source for a GSL-SE fuel pump replacement? on line at Rock auto, local parts store such as NAPA, cheap parts store (Advance, etc.), or OEM from Malloy?
This is a girl's car, all stock. I'm just fixing it for her.

Stop considering the dealer for all your parts replacement. It's a waste of money. I replaced my fuel pump with a Bosch one from Advance Auto Parts. No problem.
And, I doubt that cone screen was the cause of your fuel pump burning out. You should've seen how bad my screen was when I removed it. 7/8ths of it was covered in crap.
