GSL SE Fuel and Air filter recommendations in 2023?
Hey FBuddies, Im looking to refresh the fluids and filters on my GSL SE, I see a lot of people recommend a KN panel filter however I dont see a part number or anything on their site. As for fuel filters, im not entirely too sure what would work either or how to hook it up. But im fairly certain I gotta vhamge something out, as the motor feels pretty gutless past 6000 rpm.
What filters do you guys run?

K&N doesn't make a filter for the GSL-SE any longer based on their site. https://www.knfilters.com/air-filters/mazda/rx-7
For the fuel filter, I just use the based auto-parts store metal one. The plastic one is nice to see the crud, but like the security of the metal one. Change once or twice per year.

Do not use plastic filters on Fuel Injected (GSL-SE) cars. The fuel filter is designed to contain the higher pressure of fuel injection pumps, and the plastic store-bought generic filters will burst, as they're only designed for carbeurated cars with low pressure pumps. The N304- filters are still available, not excessively expensive, and don't need to be changed all that often, anyway. Use what Mazda designed for the system, or risk the consequences of a vehicle fire. Up to you,
Edit to add; if your SE is feeling gutless above 6k RPM, you should probably take a close look at your Lower Intake Manifold, the '6'-port actuators, their seals, and the rotation of the port sleeves, themselves. The SE uses these additional ports to let more air in at higher RPM and engine load, which could explain yours falling flat at higher RPM. Under normal operation, the '6'-ports will start to open at about 4800 RPM, and be fully open by about 5000 RPM. If youve modifed your exhaust, wired the port sleeve actuators, or otherwise tampered with the feedback tube from the Main Cat, these should all be checked to ensure proper function of the auxiliary intake ports. They're part of what makes an SE special...

I'm in the process of resurrecting this neglected and left untouched GSL-SE for 15 years and have been dealing with rust in the tank and nasty fuel lines. After draining the old fuel, removing and cleaning the fuel filter and the small in-line cone shaped filter just ahead of the fuel pump I just let the pump run fuel into an open container until it ran clear. Then I put this glass filter in-line and let the gas run in a circle for a few minutes.
But, I decided to leave it in, installing it in this position.
I have yet to replace this in-line filter. It was black and completely blocked when I removed it. A good thing to check if your having fuel pressure problems. It's located in the fuel line just ahead of the fuel pump.

Looks like Atkins has regular air filters back in stock now

The bigger question is; how much do you like vehicle fires?
The factory OEM high pressure filters are still available, last forever, and aren't expensive. What is your car worth to you? How hard would it be to replace it? Do you park it in the garage of your house where your family sleeps, and with a gas water heater standby nearby? All valid questions,
