Got my RB muffler on!

As some of you know, I got a free RB muffler(1 year old, great condition) that my buddie gave me when he got his cutom exhaust. Well, a few days ago I ended up installing the muffler with his help. It looks a lot cleaner than the stock one, because of the tips. Overall, I would say its worth it(cause I got it for free), but this is way too expensive though, if I were to buy it brand new..
How I got it off. What I did, was have my buddie bring his sawzaw and we sawed the old muffler piping off. Then we took out the muffler and got a screwdriver and placed it in where the gasket goes and hammered away until it got the rusted bolts loose enough to where we could unbolt it. Then the install was pretty easy.
One thing I noticed while I was under the car. There were two rubber hangers that were broken that are supposed to hold the muffler and exhaust. I don't need these, right. It's not moving around or anything either. It's very secure still. Plus, The hangers for the muffler, I only used one hanger, be cause the other one won't reach it unless I force the muffler into the bumper. Anybody else have these problems? Sorry its so long.

God bless

cool, how does it sound? do you still have the rest of the stock exhaust? the rubber hangers are to hold it there, but if its not going anywhere, i wouldnt worry about it.

+1 I like that muffler too. I have it on my car, with their header too. No cats or presilencers, sounds awesome. Especially with the Racing Beat filter assembly and K&N Filter.

I'll get a better pic(s) later.

It really doesn't sound that much different. The rest of the exhaust is still stock. In the future i'm going to get a custom exhaust system. I know what the rubber hangers are for, I'm not going to worry about it though. No, i don't have any pics, i need a camera, but need money for other things now. I'll try and get some sometime this week with my buddy who gave me the muffler. Myabe i'll get some sound clips too with my other buddies video camera he's bowering which is like 6,000 bucks. Ya, the RB filter assembly is awesome for only 54 bucks. I reccomend it. It makes it a lot more meaty sounding.

I did. Its sitting on Illuminas and RB springs on all 4 corners. I think its the watts bind. The car sits higher on the right side in the rear. Also the axle is positioned a bit more toward the right as well. Was fine until the springs were put on. Not too worried about it, going to go with lower springs in the rear, coils in the front, and panhard/tri-link in the rear. That'll fix my issues, I hope.

it looks a ton better...we'll take some pics and post them up later...what's crazy, is that we started the car with no muffler at all and it really made no different sound than before..mazda did a good job restricting the exhaust..; )...or mr.twinkleface has clogged cats....i didnt like the rb because it made almost no noise if you have to keep the cat, and i also had a header but it still was pretty quiet....looked nice tho

Im pretty sure its just a ground strap.

When I had my RB header and presilencer with a stock muffler, the car sounded HORRIBLE. Think giant wet fart. After I put the muffler on there, it sounded perfect. Nice, deep, mellow sound

Nice score on the muffler though!

Those hangers are like $4 through BDA. Get 'em, it's nice insurance.

I would $100t2, but i don't really think i need them. Plus, when i put one of them on that i have, for the exhaust to hold it up, it looks like its going to brake the rubber thing because its used to sitting low. Then, the muffler hanger isn't even near the rubber hanger, its weird. I'll check it out. Maybe from them being nroken the exhuast has been sagging the whole timeand now just doesn't want to go back up. I'll see

Thanks, it was a pain. The next few days my back was sore from laying on one side the whole time. It's definatley worth it though.

Doc, i think its lower toned now. Its a little different. I still have to get that spray leak thing and try it sometime. Right now i'm using lucas stabilizer to slow the leak. I would get the spray stuff, but my parents are busy a lot and i only have my permit so i need someone, 21 or older with a year of driving next to me.

I think my cats are clogged to, when we moving the exhaust sytem around, you could hear stuff in there. Still passed though. I'll get a new exhaust system someday anyways.

Get under the car and take a rubber mallet and bang on the bottom of the cat. If you hear rattling in there it means the cat has come apart inside. This will cause a major restriction in your exhaust and decrease power..

I forgot to add about the sore back. Wait to you get like us old farts.. By the time we get the muffler on we have to call the paramedics out to get us back on our feet..

Okay sweet. I'll do that later tonight maybe. Were can i find replacemnt cats that will bolt right up if they are. I know mazdatrix has them, but are they really that exspensive? I'll probably jsut wait untill i get my engine rebuilt with a street port. Then get a whole new exhaus t when i get that money. But i like manuevering around too, so i might get shocks and springs first. Idk.

BTW, thanks for the info guys.

Just make a cat replacement pipe to throw in there and pop a cat in when you need to do emissions. Once you pass take the cat off and throw the pipe back on. I'd be interested to hear a sound clip of anyone with an RB header, straight pipe, then RB muffler. It's the route I'm going and would like ot hear it in advance LOL
