Thumbs down Got the GS Running, but theres a few problems......

Well I tied it up to my wagon and had a buddy drive it...it just locked the wheels in 2nd so I hit third and dumped the clutch, it took about 3 laps around the black and finally she caught, and just smoked out teh neighborhood So we stopped and I put it in neutral and let her run, but she was running like one rotor was out, so im like ****, but then we noticed that a bunch of insulation/newspaper/mouse nest started poofing out the back, so I untied it from the wagon and drove it home, the whole time spitting out nest by the time we got home, it was runniing better, but still like it was on one rotor. I checked the plugs and they all have nice spark (had to replaced the coils) A little history on her, '85 GS gun metal grey, hasnt seen any winters, 113K on the clock, and has seen alot of storage previous to this. All of the "car out of storage" tasks have been performerd, but I think the exhaust is really screwing me over. Would this cause it to act this way? Its a completly stock exhaust, so im sure its probably something in the cats....any info welcome!

Only one way to tell, unbolt the exhaust from the manifold and go drive it It will be loud as ****, but you will know right away if the exhaust is a problem or not.

Yup. My experience with the cats was that it ran like crap until I replaced all of them with one high flow. It still passed emissions testing and ran a lot better. I wondered how much better it would run with a header.

Other than that, do a compression test. The compression test will tell you if a rotor is blown or not. You can use a normal piston engine tester, just hold in the release pin and watch the needle jump. Usually the piston testers will read low for a rotary, so if you get over 70 psi on the tester, and mainly, the pulses for each rotor face are even, then you know your engine is good.
