Good god, these cars rock
Got my car back from the shop already. New driveshaft with detachable, greaseable U joint yolks, new rear brake caliper and line, adjusted park brake cable...
One of my business partners dropped me off at the shop, and ribbed me about "the price of owning Jap Scrap". The shop owner, (Jim) who builds custom drag racers (the long, thin, scary-engine-behind-the-driver kind) just looked at him and said "speed costs money."
It was said in a friendly manner, but Jim actually respects my ReX, which is more than can be said of your average Mazda dealer.
Anyhow, I drove the car home thinking how she takes a licking and keeps on ticking. I mean, complete catastrophic brake failure in traffic, and less than 2 days later back on the road none the worse for wear. When you consider I've hit a patch of ice and had a head on collision and was able to drive away without a scratch on me, and been hit twice by other drivers being idiots, yet no matter what this li'l go-buggy keeps coming back better and stronger than before... I can't think of any car I've owned that brought me such overall owner satisfaction.
For an import sports car the grins and goosebumps are cheap at the price.

Well, do you have some stories for us or what? Or you gonna make me wait until I find out for myself.
Boost Level? Tuned? Idles? Speed? Races?
Hook a brother up.

I've driven everything from turbo Zs to a turbocharged tracked troop carrier (6 cyl 2 stroke with pistons about 12 inches in diameter) Turbocharging is great but for street driving I find my free-breathing non-turbo adequate.
I've repaired many turbos and, as Alex once told me, when you drive Turbo you're "running on the ragged edge of everything". What with potential speeding tickets, car saboteurs, and winter looming I wouldn't need the expense and headaches of turbocharging just yet.
Of course, come next spring...

Well I have been doing some bad bad things I have been 'trying' to drive the car easy. But I think the car has race me plastered on it...
Im having some idleing issues, the stock coolant idle thingy ***** with my idle sometimes it idles at 1500, sometimes it idles at 900, sometimes it barely idles at all.
Tuned=just by me so far, i need it done professionally but 1000 miles is a long *** way... Ill figure something soon, i hope.
Speed=lets just put it this way the car has the ability to touch that 'i dont like 120 shake it normally has' It had tons left, was still pulling hard at 100.
Races=well lets just say I havent been exactly nice to the car... A turbocharged civic, a mustang cobra are some of the victims.
I keep saying this, but I have got to take it easy on this damn thing... It will do 16-17 psi no problem...
Lets talk premium gas and how much it likes it... It likes it more than I like dollar bills and a strip club
Well anyways, I never said anything about this stuff cause I dont wanna get that 'get it tuned flames' > If I blow the motor, big deal, its easy to get out Then I can get a SP, and then get it tuned proper like

First, it's nice to see a post titled "...These Cars Rock!" by a long time owner, as usually we see that from a newbe. (Not that it's not fun to read first time reactions, too.)
Then to have among us someone who's just so content with their car as you are - just the way it is.
Engine (and other) moddification seems to consume alot of us. I know it's like a compulsion for me!
...You know what Manntis? -Yer just plain cool!
Who the hell has some sleaze bag try to kill him, and dusts himself all off and is so damn chipper just two days later, huh?
...In fact, I think maybe now I hate you for being so cool!

I got my car back in a resonable amount of time, with only a couple of hundred bucks in repairs. Had I smucked into something or someone due to the tampered brakes, I'd be pissed - but thanks to a lot of luck and a little e-brake I avoided that... (even had the car flat-bedded to the shop - I don't think I could stand to see her dragged behind a towtruck with those stick-on emergency lights scratching up her roof)
The boy that injured her (or more properly the one in suspicion of doing so) spent a few nights in jail already and this incident, while circumstantial, seems to be playing a role in having him sent to the iron bar hotel for a minimum of 18 months.
I could still be cursing & swearing about it but it's over & he's getting punished, so why bother? And when compared to some of the crap I saw while Peacekeeping this is a minor thing.
No one was hurt, damage was contained, and Pamela is as good as ever And yeah, she rocks, like other cars who share her curves and lust for speed...

Hey Manntis,
I just bought my 85 GSL-SE a month ago and was telling my buddy back in S'toon about it. He mentioned there is one in his neighborhood (I think he is on 4th Street) that is gorgeous; 16" Enkeis, rust free, very clean. I assume he is talking about yours.
I am just rebuilding the tranny, new clutch, fixing exhaust with racing beat muffler and hollow pre-cats, flushing all fluids, etc..
Trying to get it done before our winter rain deluge. LOL
