R&P gears. I had 250whp, now probably closer to 325-350 (haven't dyno'd new turbo).

Original -se rear end and tranny, 170k on everything. Tranny shifts fine, no probs, LSD is getting weak on really tight turns but 90% of the time is tight, axles are in great shape. Gears exploded one night last february. No clutch drop or nothing. Gave it some gas in 2nd, turbo spooled, car stated to go, Boom goes the dynamite. Totally stripped ring and pinion.

I think gears are weak, and even if I'm wrong, everything else is easily upgraded to near unbreakable spec. Getting creative with some coatings/treatments may save the gears.

I pulled my diff out and saw that I split a spider gear in half. Maybe it was a defective gear. The R&P looked mint.

Odd that you've stripped a ring and pinion, especially on the street while rolling onto the throttle. Was the diff whining before it happened?
