Jeff, thanks for the response.

I tried the stock unlocked distributor w no vacuum hooked up and glowing is completely non-existent cruising w out getting into boost. Even if I drive a good extent.

I'm a bit lost though...??? A stock unlocked distributor only should advance 20* right...???

My timing light is wayyyyy off then bc it's saying it's advancing 60*...?

Although visually looking at the gap from Leading mark back to the pin upon advancement, it's definatly greater then a Racing Beat marked pulley I have shows as being 20*. Looks almost identical to the gap RB shows as 10*ATDC - 20*BTDC. That's a total of 30*. So wtf is going on here...?

You have an 85 SE. Their dizzies advance further. With the dizzy out, if you look down into the guts to see the slot, you'll see it is curved. The curve adds extra length which equates to more advance.

If you recall from my recent semi-locked thread, https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generati...boost-1077251/ I determined that 1.2mm of slot length is equal to 5 degrees of mechanical advance as seen on the pulley with a timing light. With such a small amount of length adding so much advance, it's easy to see why the GSL-SE advances so much more than just 20 degrees when you compare a short straight slot with a long curved slot.

I think j9fd3s might know the actual amount of advance an SE dizzy has. I don't recall what it is as I haven't measured it but I thought it was anywhere from 25 to 30 degrees. All I know is it's more than a 12A dizzy.

What I think you ought to do is get yourself a 12A dizzy and semi-lock it. It works way better than fully locked in my opinion. Fully locked is basically obsolete at this point.

And my timing light is reading double time. So all along wherever I thought I was it really was only half. Jeeeez.

That's why I own a simple timing light. No *****, bells or whistles.

yes, if you look in the good book, chapter 5 page 36, it pretty unclearly shows the 13B distributor advance is 13.75 degrees, which is 27.5 at the engine.

i put a similar ( re ) post up on the aussie forum about the same time as yours, -redoing my pics from an earlier thread where imageshack had stolen the images

but i had no idea yours was up already

about the only thing different// is i prefer to tack a half washer on the underside then open it up to suit with a die grinder

this way it can all be undone very easily

you also negated to mention if you bend the post for the spring you can alter the tension and thus the rate of advance V rpm

PS
over here our late dizzy is marked with 155 , and relates to 31 degrees of total mech advance at the crank
the vac pots are also marked 17 T and 10 L [ double the numbers for crank degrees ]

while earlier s2 dizzy pots are usually 7.5 L and 12.5 T and have 14 ( 28 crank ) marked on the mech advance

and the book i have is for the initial rx7, and shows the advance as 12.5 mech ( 25 at crank ) and the leading is 7.5 ( 15 at crank ) and 15L ( 30 at crank )
