Getting Ready For A 13B Swap
So it turns out I've got a bit of e-shaft play. The main pulley is wobbling and theres a horrible vibration. So its time for a 13B swap! I just thought I'd make this thread to make sure I've got everything I need and possibly do a picture included write up as I get to work.
Its currently a stock 12A block, light weight flywheel, side draft set up, header, gilmer pulleys, etc. The motor I'm putting in is an 86 S4 N/A block with 56k original on it. It may have a blown coolant jacket so I'll be testing it out before I order anything as it is.
So heres the question, am I missing anything?
-86-88 13B 6 Port Upper Half Side Draft Intake (the one racingbeat designed to bolt up to the stock S4 LIM
-13B Header (will this require a re-pipe to fit in place of the 12A header? or will it end up ending in the same place. My guess is that it will require a re-pipe)
-GSL-SE Oil Pan and pick up tube
-12A Front Cover (got this one already =P)
-86-88 13b 6 port rear counterweight for use of my lightweight flywheel off my 12A
-Racingbeat Front engine mount and/or notched 12A Bracket (is a notched 12A a good idea? I've seen pictures of them and been a little worried about the structural integrity of them)
-Starter? Not sure if I will need one, if I'm using the same flywheel/trans I would imagine the current starter would work
Anything I'm missing?

You need a gslse header with the right presilencer that has the feedback tube for the aux ports (i've got one)
Bend & notch the 12a bracket, you'll be fine, seen it done before a few times.
What are your plans for the omp?
Fuel pressure regulator for the side draft
Use your stock 12a ignition
GSLSE oil cooler instead of the 12a beehive..

is the feedback tube for the 5th and 6th ports deal? Couldn't I just remove and block them off?
OMP will be blocked off, been running pre mix all along.
FPR and fuel system will remain unchanged from the 12A set up, maybe a little fine tuning later on.
Yeah forgot to mention swapping the ignition system, and yeah I'm actually going to run an aftermarket oil cooler rated for more BTUs

I'm finally working on getting my auxiliaries functional on my setup. I'm just using a summit rpm activated switch wired to a gm lumbar support air pump. The system can be built for under $75.

when you say streetable, are you just refering to smoother operation and better MPGs or something? How would it be different than my existing 4 port.
And am I going to need to get a new starter? I've got an 83 trans, lightweight flywheel, and stage II clutch. I was hoping to bolt the flywheel and clutch to the new motor with an s4 counterweight, which I would imagine would mean the same starter should be fine?

If I remember right the 83 starter will work fine. If you used a 86+ starter you will need a longer bolt with a nut because the starters mount isn't threaded. As far a street able goes, I haven't had any issues with leaving the aux ports wired open but I don't have anything to compare it to since I'm still finishing up my air pump to run them. In a nut shell, with the aux. ports closed the primaries are small which will keep velocity high and better fill the combustion chambers lower in the rpm's. Open them at higher rpm's leaving the port open longer and you can better fill the chambers at higher in the power band. So the car should make more power over the entire power band when they are operational

my 84 gs has the 13b six port swap. do not do the notched front mount, get the racing beat front mount, you will be much happier and the easy of install is great. I am also using a side draft dellarto and racing beat uim as well as a rb header. what a great set up. new engine has 1k on it now and what a blast to drive. nice project, you will need the gsl-se front cover to do the swap, keep us updated on the install.

Stock difference between 12A and 13B (GSLSE) mounting is in the main cross member that the motor mounts are attached to. Get one from a GSLSE and the 13B will slide right in. GSLSE front cover will allow the use of the 4 line OMP while 12A front cover uses the 2 line. Either will work. I use this method to activate my auxilliary ports.

lim has a block off plate, just running the racing beat uim and dell. new engine has 1300 miles on it and pulls really hard. went simple for reliability, less crap to worry about. will break the tires loose in 1st and 2nd in the dry with a hard stomp of the throttle, I think I got it right. will try to post pics of the engine tomorrow for you and my intake set up.
