Getting an 82, What parts can go into an 85 GS?
Exactly what the title says.
Getting an 82, what I really need to know is whether the Engine and/or Tranny is a direct swap? Or if any Mods are needed to make it work?
And what other parts should I pull from the body before I junk it!
Oh, and what would I need to do to make sure it passes E-Check if and when I do the Engine Swap. (Overheated my Engine once, now I have a Dowel Pin Leak).
Thanks!

Yes! Make sure you get the front mounted, air/oil cooler and 3-row radiator as well.
You will want to use the wiring harness from the '85 and it should be a no-brainer to install the '82s engine and tranny. Use the accessories from the '85 for the easiest install. Don't worry about e-check people; they can't tell the difference.

Oil Pressure switch is different. Rats nest is slightly different (one or two sensors should be swapped). Some of the emission parts on the carb and air pump will have to be swapped. Other than those minor things, you should be ok.. I just finished doing the opposite of what you are doing. I just swapped an 84 engine into an 83.

Like I said, use the accessories from the '85, senders and all. Also, unbolt the intake manifold and put it, carb and all, on the '82 engine. That'll save you a lot of trouble.

Hmm, so I'll have to use the 85's Carb and Rat's Nest for the swap? Howabout Exhaust, will I have to swap the Cats from the 82 for the swap to work?
So bassicly I want to keep everything from the 85 except the bare bones 82 Engine and Tranny?
Thanks!

The exhaust manifold should be interchangable so you can use the one attached to the '82 (so you don't have to take it off) unless there's something wrong with it.
You don't have to use the '85's carb; it's just much easier. You can keep the '82's oil pan, water pump, smog pump, etc. You'll want most of the senders from the '85 unless they are identical.
Also, USE THE 82 OIL COOLER AND RADIATOR. This'll make it a lot easier to swap over, too.
The trannys should be interchangable. You *may* want to use the shifter from the '85. Use the tranny/starter wiring harness from the '85.

Right, now this may sound like a newbie question, well it is... Just see how many posts I've made.
But what are the "Senders" I'm kind of lost as to what you mean by that.
And of course I'll take the Radiator and Oil Cooler... It'll keep this engine from overheating and cooking the O Rings on the Oil Cooloer/Oil Tower.

When refering to the senders, they mean, oil pressure and temp senders. Don't worry all 81-85 rx7's, 12a & 13b senders are interchangeable. I can say that because Iam in the parts business. Also water pumps, 81-85, either engine are
interchangeable. If on your 82 you have the oil cooler below the oil filter, i would recommend that you use the 85 radiator and oil cooler, and lines, these also will
work and are more efficent. Have any other questions, please feel free to pm me. Good luck.

The 84-85 dashboard uses both an oil light and an oil guage.. The oil pressure switch on the 84-85 is the guage type. The 83 - prior has only the light. That oil pressure switch is different. (I'm in the parts business too, hence the name.)

Yeah, plus, the 85 is the one with the inferior beehive oil cooler, not the '82. You should get these things straight if you're going ot be selling parts.

Interchangeable parts pissing contest
Sorry guys, put your claws back in. I am wrong about the oil coolers. 83-85 12a's
are the beehive system. 84-85 se's are the better one.
As far as the oil pressure switch, i was wrong , 81-92 are all the same. None of these years have a light, they all have a low oil indicator trigger by the oil level sensor in the oil pan which all are the same 81-85, 12a or 13b. Can't we all just get along?

Erh... Thanks Peeps... I think.
*Scratches head* I don't know if that didn't just confused me more, or helped me understand... Ah well.
Thanks! I think I'll be able to figure it out now... Maybe...
