Genuine 12A turbo, now with PICTURES! 56K beware!

The gray car is mine. Its virtually stock outside, besides the wheels. On the inside however, its got a genuine JDM 12A turbo, large FMIC, Hitachi HT18 turbo running 7 psi (for the moment), full custom exhaust, FPR, KN, and more..

The interior is starting to come together too, with lots of Autometers, polished aluminium, OMP racing seats painted in the same color as the car, relocated battery and so on.. No carpet and absolutely no insulation!

The car is a original Savannah turbo, and all the mods are done in a way that makes it possible to return it to its original state, not a hole has been drilled. Plans for it are uprating the fuel system and a little more boost, and just keep it as it is for the summer. Then, when winter comes, the engine is going out for a overhaul, large streetport/extend/bridge (dont know yet), bigger turbo, more fuel and some kind of aftermarket ECU like Haltech.

Oh, and excuse the red license plates. The car hasnt been registered for the road, and the red sticker plates are kinda like one day titles for it. (You can basically buy stickers and drive anything on the road as long as it has a serial number here in Norway)

Well, since the red car who belongs to one of the guys in the garage is running a T45 KKK turbo, Haltech, and has a large streetport/extend port, the red car is definetivly faster.. But im getting faster and faster each week.

I am currently in the process of obtaining a better fuel pump, as the original one cant handle more than stock boost, making it lean out when hitting over 6K.

Thanks for the comments, more pictures of the interior and stuff is coming!

You are correct, it has Nippondenso efi linked to Mitsubishi Electric digital control computer. For any performance you substitute a modern system like a Haltech but you can keep it simple and retain a locked 12AT dizzy.

your saying instead of a haltech for efi
you can lock the dizzy and use a carb instead for simplicity?

oh i think i missread his post thinking it was the 12at
when hes just using a 12at turbo...
or iv still got it wrong and he has carbed a efi engine what happens to the injectors then blocked?

[QUOTE=mortenf]
The car is a original Savannah turbo.

Looks a neat combination.

From the rear end and wheels it looks a standard European model rather than a Savannah. Possibly the s3 due to the location of the number plate lights. Does the engine come from a RX-7 or the more common Cosmo? I hope it came with the 12AT manual gearbox which is stronger and can stand more modification.

The original system is a fuel only analogue ecu with a boost variable dizzy. You can just upgrade to a fuel only digital ecu with a locked dizzy if above 8psi. FB II advised me with 10 degrees total advance you can use 16psi with a big FMIC. I have only gone to 12psi in my daily driver. The alternative approach is to go more upmarket with a fuel/ignition ecu, this is what I will do on my wife's engine in her shopping cart as it will be a four injector system.

The orange fan indicates it is a 12AT. It should be a different pattern but you can't see it in the photo.

We are all on a learning curve, sometimes I think mine is sloping down hill.

I really enjoy my Gen 1, its the best fun since I built my first car at 14. Then I constructed the chassis and beat alloy ice cream signs into a highly polished body[nightly hunting trips to acquire them] making it look like a 30s Bugatti.

Peak of God and Cloud Nine are genuine locations near where I work. My Rex is what I come home for, after kissing my wife of course! Straight to the garage while she unpacks the duty free.

Thanks for the comments. The whole car is a original Savannah turbo (GTX). Its imported from Japan, to the measly cost of 3500 dollars. Since then i have repainted the car, and done all the modifications.

The reason you are fooled by the bumper (damn, some of you know a lot of stuff guys!) is because it is a replacement! I got hit the first ever trip i ever made with the car. Busted the rear bumper and one tail light... But on the plus side, my insurance covered a full respray, new rims, and a Snap on tool cabinet!

The car is indeed fuel injected, but i know it looks like a carb. The only problem is that its only running two injectors (800cc) so if you want to go further than about 250 RWHP, you are going to need more fuel.

The FC belongs to Hellrotary on this forum, and i agree, its one of the best looking FCs out there. See pics below

I thought id share some pics of the other cars currently in development at simtechracings garage..

Rogers RX2, had a 580 BHP 12A turbo, currently running a 13B-REW and a GT42...

Jan Eriks 929 coupe, with a extend ported 13B..

Oles FC, currently under construction, again!

You certainly got a bargain for a GT-X in Japan, even the base model GT with a 12AT engine sells for far more on the odd occasion they come up for sale.

Sorry to hear of the experience of your first ride, at least that explains the back end!

Usually the GT-X was dealer fitted with a rubber rear spoiler and alloy wheels from the SE Ltd. Out of interest attached is the centrepage from the Mazda sales leaflet on the turbo Gen 1s.

You are right about the limitations of the two injector system, it means you lean out above 6.000rpm so I limit tune to give just over 220rwhp. You can either tap in two more, or more drastically go IDA style throtle body or modified FC with a 550 800 set-up for higher output with a TO4 turbo. I am thinking of going hybrid on my wife's car with 12AT with a 13B centreplate.

I studied in Bergen then Oslo for a while under the spell of a Flora girl I met while sailing, where was the photo shot?

The pictures where taken in Trondheim, about 300 miles from Oslo, at the docks. You are also right about the SE rims. They came with the car, but where so hideous that i had to change them.

I know its rare, thats why all the modifications im doing are completely reversable, not a hole is drilled in the body, and all the original parts are stored.

Thanks for the FC manifold idea! Guess thats next on my shopping list! Im currently pondering over what turbo to choose, and measuring where i have room for it. Im also going Haltech, but not before i enjoyed this summer with the car!
