Gas Milage Question

I was just wondering what everyone is getting for gas milage. Because mine is really crappy, and I wanna see what other people are getting.

Depends on your definition of shitty mileage. Compared to my TA the 7 gets crazy good mileage. In the summer I get around 20 mpg, thats mostly around town driving, little or no highway. This time of year I get like 16mpg cause I let it warm up a lot, so it shoots it to hell. hehe, the TA gets 8 mpg on a good day, so 16 is good to me.

Fresh rebuilt carb....stock port 12A w/14,000 miles rebuilt...18.5 mpg while it's cold (have to let it idle warm up as stated above...), about a consistent 19.2 otherwise....

The '80 streetport 12A managed 17.5, but the carb needed a quality rebuild after 3 years of hard duty...

What do you mean by TA. And my car used to get like 11 miles to gallon, and now all of a sudden its like 6, or 7. I was thinking of my accelerator pump, but im not sure.

I do lots of highway driving and I usually average right around 25 MPG overall. City driving in stop and go traffic will kill your gas mileage.

Replace the cats and rebuild the carb....sad but true, if it hasn't been done already....you should make up the $$$ with the gas savings the way the prices keep going up...

I took all of the emissions off of my car. I was geeting about 160 on a tank for about 3 months. Now all of a sudden its like 120.

Only 160!? Something is very wrong with that picture. I get nearly 400 city/highway combined.

wow that shitty gas mileage, i get in my -SE like 350 miles out of a full gas tank. do you smell gas on you car? and if you do check your gas tank for leak and the carb. and check too for vacuum leak. maibe theres a plug or a vacuum line loose or crack. check the fuel filter that will cause some shitty mileage if it dirty and spark plugs

I'm not sure what i get.
But when my dad drove my car he said he got 20-23mpg in the city and around 30 on the highway.
It's a stock 12a with a K&N air filter.
Get one, it was a noticable change in mileage.

I get 230 out of a full tank on a stock port 12A with full RB exhaust. I thought that was good cause on the ALL stock 85 I was only getting 200. Is this good or bad?

I've been calculating mine as about 15-16 mpg, which seems a little low, given the numbers some of you have gotten. I usually get around 225-240 miles per tank, which is completely full to completely empty (yes, i've actually done that, but just once, I tells ya!). Also, is the tank capacity really 16.5 gal.? I have an '84 GS, and I canusually get only 14.5 gal of gas into that thing.

Yes, the SE tank is 16.4 gal. I know that most of the time I never got more than about 14.5 gallons per fill, even when the tank appeared to be near empty. So, I was originally wondering the same thing (Is it 14.5 gal or 16.4?). But once I got the tank really low and it took 16 gallons to fill. BTW, I usually got about 25 mpg highway in my SE, and it was running a bit rich.

EDIT: my mistake, thought that you had an SE. The SE tanks are 16.4 and I think the 12A tanks are 14.5.

My last tank, with the car running like ***, was 21.9 mpg, 70% hwy, 30% city...

Hopefully with emissions removal, full exhaust, and a nicely tuned carb and ignition, I can get that up to at least 25mpg average hwy...

Hmmm, is the 14.5 gallon tank any lighter? Might be a nice little trick for my 85....

My bad. I was under the impression that all of the 12As had a 14.5 gallon tank. It does make sense that Mazda would try to keep as much as possible common the two to simplify production.

wrong, I'm not sure when they switched tanks, I think all FB's have the larger tank, but I'm not sure, my 83 has the 16.4 gal tank, the haynes manual says when they switched, but I don't have it handy.

my '79 has a different tank than any 81-85 car I've ever seen... I tried getting a replacement tank for my car, and the only ones that cross-referenced at any of the junkyards I went to were the 79-80 tanks...

I'm looking in my owner's manual right now and the fuel tank capacity for 85 RX-7s is 16.6 US gallons or 63 liters. I'm guessing that it's the same for 84 RX-7s as well.
