VA Fuel Tank Strainer

I've tried to find a new replacement in tank fuel strainer with no luck. I've checked mazdatrix, rockauto, local parts stores. . .waiting on a return call from the local mazda part dept to see if they carry it. I have an 84 fb.

If Mazda doesn't carry it, has anyone found a suitable stock replacement? The screen element on mine is not good. . .in fact, it fell apart upon cleaning it! The plastic parts are in good shape. One thought I had was to find the screen material that I can slip over the plastic piece. Trouble with that is how to tie it off securely.

Would a strainer from a 2nd gen model work? The prob with this (I think) is that it may slip off while in tank due to too much clearance between it and the bottom of the tank. . . or it may sit too far up therefore not getting fuel when close to empty.

Any help is much appreciated!

I went to my local Advance auto and sifted through what they had til I found one that looked right. It'll be a sock, not like the original strainer.
