Angry Fuel Smell in the cockpit

Ok, need some input from the crew. I know that on hard turns you can starve your FB stock carb(www.yawpower.com) What concerns me is the smell of fuel in the cockpit after the hard turns and drifting.
I am not in a hurry to have my fresh engine get fried by a fuel fire in the engine bay. Is there anything I can do besides get a modified carb? Any advice would be great.

It "only" happens on hard/sliding turns, not on straights or mild/normal cornering.

after the corner it takes about 3-6 seconds and I start smelling it, it doesn't go away for about a minute or so.
Scary when you know the engine is hot and the header can ignite fuel. I have never found any leaking, but with fuel it disapates pretty quick anyway and is hard to nail down.

I had to change my carbon filter under the hood once, it stoped the fuel smell for me. The reason my carbon filter went bad is because I had a bad fuel cap which caused a presure leak in the fuel system.

Thanks for the tip, I got a couple of spares around. Any ideas for a aftermarket version of the Charcoal Canister?

Regards

Ahhh, so you're thinking there might be some issues with the tank system in the rear.....not a bad thought.
I will check it out, I have been needing a excuse to go to a fuel cell anyway and dump the stock tank so I can have dual exhaust!

Thanks

fuel cell is like a usually metal box to hold your fuel in. some people keep them inside the car.

They also have baffles to keep the fuel from sloshing around, and throwing the balance of the car off when the g forces change direction suddenly.

anyone got a general location of this filter to change? the car did have a bad fuel cap before i bought it. i saw something mentioned about it in the smog test receipts. and the new cap seems loose too. but mine smells like fuel most of the time, not just on turns. I dont think my leak is in the cap.

Canister is mounted on the passenger side shock tower, unless you have an SA, then it's integrated into the air cleaner lid.

i thought there might be a notorious component in the engine compartment which can develop a common fuel leak.

Not your engine, but for the carb'd 12A's, they're called the stock factory fuel lines as we see ethanol becoming a regular part of everyone's gasoline now...
