Fuel sending unit differences?

Hey guys I just picked up a fuel sending unit for my 83 which has a 2 prong connector on it. I jus realized that the one I bought has a 3 prong. I was not aware that there were 2 different fuel sending units for our cars. Can someone please verify this? Also any ideas how to make the 3 prong connector work in my 83?

Thanks, Ed

The 84-85 had a 3 prong connector. THe extra prong runs the idiot light on the 84-85 dash. The other two prongs are the same as the 83. It will work fine with only the two wires connected, but you'll have to replace your connector with a 3 prong connector. It's similar to many of the connectors on the car, so if you have a parts car, just go looking for a 3 prong connector. I'm not exactly sure which wire is the idiot light wire, though. Good luck.
