fuel pump and tach not working

ok i have a 1980 and am parked at the office right now. I just tried to start it and it wouldnt start...i noticed the pump was not making its usual buzz. It is a relatively new pump...so i dont think that it is bad. Also... the tach doesnt bounce like it normally does when i try to start it. I heard that this could be the trailing ignitor and am wandering first:
the trailing ignitor is on the driverside engine wall correct?
and second what can i do to fix it.

Thanks alot

Check the fuse in the fues box first. On your year the ignitors play no role in power to the fuel pump. This was a 84-85 model specific thing.

On the S3 models, it's the 'engine' fuse. Iirc, it's the same on the earlier ones.

This is not a tach problem but i was having toruble with my fuel pump a few months back because of a bad ground. I fixed my battery cables and she was good to go

Thanks guys...turns out it was the 1st fuse. It had a hairline crack in it and i had a replacement lying around. Now it runs great...it mysteriously fixed the tach too.

The "Engine" fuse powers both the fuel pump, and the ignition. This exaplains the tach not bouncing while you were cranking.
My 83 has a fuel pump fuse, and an engine fuse. I guess Mazda saw the light on one fuse for both.....
