Question Fuel Pump

I posted a while ago about getting an RX-7, but ended up not getting that one. Well, now a new one came up, a 1983 GSL. It's for $500, and comes with an extra set of rims (stock Miata rims). The body itself is in good condition, and the interior isn't in too bad of a shape (seats are ripped a bit). It's a 5 speed manual as well. It has a couple mods, mainly a new exhaust and clutch tuning. The main problems would be: windshield wiper motor is dead, carburetor is having trouble due to a bad fuel pump (leaks all over, can't even start the car), and the front brakes need a little work. My two questions are, how bad of a problem is a bad fuel pump on a rotary engine, and if you think I'm getting a good deal.

500 bucks sounds great, another 75-100 and you can replace all the parts you described,,, the wiper motor (check fuse and grease the moving parts of wiper motor), carb kit for less than 20 bucks, fuel pump (5 bucks at bone yard, might check for clogs or if its even getting battery), brake pads 20-50 bucks, if its just gonna be a fixer upper and not something you need right now to drive, i would say go for it,,,,,

You can sell the Miata rims for about $25-30 apop... might as well since they won't fit an RX-7. Miatas are 4x100, RX-7s were all 4x110 in 1983.

I have a set of Miata rims too No they don't fit anything I have... yet.

Oh, almost forgot. In the 1983, was the fuel pump mechanical or electronic? I should be able to tell what the problem is once I figure that out.

The fuel pump is electric and is under the car on the drivers side.
Is the carb leaking or is the fuel pump leaking. If it is the carb your pump is ok.
Heck if that is all that is wrong with it grab it. I paid $400.00 for mine and it didn't even run.

fuel pump is by the drivers rear tire protected by a steel plate, 3 screws to remove plate, behind drivers seat remove the storage bin, the electric connector for the fuel pump is there, check for voltage, if none, pump relay is bad, i ran a hot wire to it because i couldnt find the relay, either check for voltage or turn on key and listen for a humming from the pump....mine was clogged up and eventually replaced the gas tank for 25 bucks, kept clogging my filters.........go get it ,,,,,,
