you only need an aftermarket fuel pump and regulator if you are swapping you stock carb and intake setup with an aftermarket unit or each. installing a high pressure fuel pump without the regulator on a stcok carb will flood the engine. and its pointless to feed the engine with a high volume pump and regulate it down to stock pressures. you've just wasted your money. if you install an aftermarket carb and intake, you will also need to install a better complete exhaust such as a racing beat exhaust.

You can outrun the stock pump pretty easily with bolt-ons, especially if it's old. With a Sterling or Weber, an aftermarket pump is pretty much a necessity even though the stock pump's output pressure is technically okay for those carbs.

I'm not sure that you could use a FI pump (GSL-SE) and then regulate it all the way down to 4psi. I see blown pumps in your future if you try that, but I could be wrong.
Here's my writeup on the pump/regulator installation: https://www.rx7club.com//showthread.php?t=529605
Good luck with your upgrades.![Smilie](https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)

i do know that when i used it, it broke my cheap purolator regulator, thats why i took it of, but i thought itv was the regulator that sucked not the pump having to much pressure. that makes sense
