Fuel Level Sender Unit - HELP!
Hey Guys,
I started the process of removing the tank today. I got the metal shields off from around the tank and decided to concentrate on the fuel level sender next.
So I get to the sender, and it's got a HUGE glob of rubberized goop over top of all the connectors. In attempting to remove this goop, I ripped two of the wires out from their connectors.
What's odd is that once I got the goop off, I was confronted with three wires, with their own seperate connector at the end, as opposed to one solid white plastic connector. This makes me think that the sender has been re-wired before. Anyway, I checked the heynes and I can't for the life of me find a three-pronged fuel sender pinout! The ones in there are all T-shaped connectors with a black and a yellow wire.
I have a black, a yellow, and a yellow/blue wire. My new fuel level sender also has three pins to match... I just don't know what goes where!

Above is what the connectors on my fuel level sender look like.. sorta like the symbol for pi, with one connector horizontal above the two vertical ones. I have a black wire (ground I'd assume) a yellow wire (?) and a yellow/blue wire. Each have their own little connectors, so I have to find out which prong they go on.
Thanks Guys
Jon

Nevermind guys, I found it.
They had to bury it on pg 304 of the Heynes, in the revisions section, *after* teasing you with the 81-83 diagrams again... I actually had the pins "upside down" from the way they heynes has them, but who cares?
The "horizontal" one is the black (ground) wire, the one on the right (in my diagram above) is the Yellow/Blue and the one on the left is the Yellow.
And let this be a lesson to everyone.. WEAR YOUR DAMN SAFETY GOGGLES UNDER THE CAR!! I got a whole bunch of rust in my eyes by accident, even though my head was nowhere near where I was working with my hands... and it ******* hurt! I had to spend like 20mins washing it out.. ouch...

I always wear safety glasses when going under ANY car.
I also use'em when i'm using,,,, drill press, grinder, anything machining metal. and when using nasty fluids
because,,,your right, that **** hurts.

I always used them on any machinery (drill press, band saw, etc...) because the idea of having shards of metal or wood flying for my eye at a mile a minute didn't suit me...
but I guess I stupidly figured I could just duck out of the way of something that would fall... grrr...
Anyway. I've put the pause on taking the tank off for today. I cracked open the four bolts for the straps (to make sure I wasn't gonna snap the heads off or something stupid) and took the screws out of the fuel filler pipe holder. I put two 4x4" pieces of wood on the jack and nudged them up to the tank... But since I'm alone today I don't wanna undo the straps and pull it down.
I dunno... it looks secure to me, but the thought of being under there undoing the straps without someone to dig me out if it fell... just doesn't make me smile.
So I'll finish tomorrow. Looks easy enough. Should I try to remove the gas lines etc.. before I drop the tank, or should I drop it a bit to give my hands more room to move?
And has anyone replaced their e-brake cable? I want to do that too, and could use any tips you have. The Heynes says "The parking brake should not need routine maintenance" and proceeds to tell you only how to adjust/tighten it slightly. I mean frig man, your engine doesn't need a rebuild as part of it's "routine maintanence" yet they include that! There are a thousand things that don't need "routine maintanence", I think they just got lazy!
