Fresh 12a installation questions
Hey guys, my 7's been in the paint shop lately and i'm finally getting around to installing the cleaned up engine. My question is are there any particular procedure that i should do while installing the engine? Like how to fill with fluids the first time, etc.
back history:
I have a 84 gs, and lost all compression over the course of a couple months, picked up a running 83 for $700 and pulled both engines, the 83 engine needed a couple things while it was out, i drained the oil and changed the oil pan gasket then refilled to the proper level, i also did a rats nest removal and polished the intake while it was off, in doing this i drained most fluids out of the block

if the engine bay has a new paint, be sure to cover the panels and firewall to prevent them from getting scratch. Thats my plan on new projects. Installation wise, I will install the tranny, then the motor. and in addition to the obvious/usual, pour a cap full of oil in the rotor housing via the carb and hand crank it for a minute or so.
Crank the motor wihtout the spark plugs wires (to prevent the engine from starting) and then stop as soon as you see oil pressure on your gauge. you dont want to run a motor with 100% of oil sitting in the oil pan

Fill the radiator/engine with coolant. Start the car and while it is idling, remove the radiator cap and squeeze the lower & upper radiator hose to de-aire or burp the entire cooling system and slowly re-fill the radiator. I use gutted t-stat.
if you're running t-stat, be careful as it takes a few minutes for the coolant to get hot in order for the t-stat to open/coolant to circulate.
