Freaking oil sending unit!!! :(

Freaking oil sending unit!!! :(

Ok on my cosmo 13b, I got a factory oil sending unit for it. I got this damn thing in there about as tight as it will go and its leaking oil, anyone got any ideas? I clean it up really good and start the motor up about 10 seconds later, here comes a little oil dripping down I have tried teflon tape, all kinds of things.

Im positive its coming from around the oil sending unit, I can watch it come out of there or close to... I have got this thing in there so tight Im afraid its gonna snap off if I turn on it anymore Anyone had this problem?

Are you referring to the "Golden Mushroom" under the Oil Filter? On the rear end plate?

usually a little silicon or teflon tape will work...

Yes that the one..

@j9fd3s I tried teflon tape... God I hope the back plate isnt cracked on this thing, I will so severly PISSED.

i used an o ring on mine and that worked the best someties the threads are just a little to big and an o ring will work. Try that it might help.

I just dont see how an O ring is gonna do it on this one

I might try some liquid teflon... See what that does...

are you using the tefolon tape in a blue/white container? i would try some gas pipe tape, usally in a yellow/black container. its thicker and imo better for automotive applications..

you need a small one that fits between the threads and where fitting ends it has to be a tight fit around the threads.

I got a crapload of O rings in about anysize you can imagine... I just dont see that making a seal againstthe housings flat surface and the oil sender's bevel surface after the threads.

that is simply what i did and it stopped mine. my dad had the idea we tried it and it worked. i was just offering advice on what worked with us.

I think Im gonna use a whole tube of loctite 545, thread it in there with an o ring as tight as I can and then TIG it to the block LOL

No seriously I think setzep has me set straight...

Yeah man I hate having to reclean a surface that has oil all over it , just to have to take it back out, I think I had this thing in and out about 10 times. Im just hoping the damn rear housing thing isnt cracked...

I like the JB weld idea if it's still not working. That stuff is great. And if you ever did need to take it out, it can be broken with a little finesse (read: force).
