Frankensteining the Interior

Just wondering, but has anybody customized/redid their own interior? I keep pricing what it would take to redo mine and I'm not certain I like what I see. The mazda interiors just look kind of cheap and unispiring. I'm thinking about redoing mine from scratch (like building own door skins, putting in some COMFORTABLE seats, etc.). Anybody try this before?

Run the forum search engine on interiors...it's been done thoroughly at least twice regarding interiors...general consensus is that J. Reyes' interior kicks the most butt...

Ive done my door panels so far it was pretty easy I just removed the old torn material, cut the new stuff to size with a little left over to wrap around the edges, got some stuff used to stuff quilts , about half inch think and cut that to size. Then i used contact cement and a staple gun (with short staples) to adhere the exrta fabric to the back side of the panel. I am going for a relatively stock look though. By the way, why do puys like to get 2nd gen seats? Are they more comfortable, do they look better? Anyone got a pic of a 1st gen with 2nd gen seats?

Man, I'd kill for something half as nice as J.R's. I already plan on trying out his engine paint trick. Really what I was wondering about was upholostery for the panels. I have some nasty velour stuff right now that's just shot. Most of the panels underneath are in equally poor condition. I was planning on picking up some wood or something to recut the panels, then cover them with something (you can see how much research I've done so far...)

Hey Neanderthol and V8Kilr...what did you use for material? Where did you get it at?
