Found a muffler, what do you think?
I was bored and was checking out Auto Zone's website. I clicked on exhaust and came up with a couple different options. This is for an 82 12A car though mine is an 83 - it has the RB road race setup on it with some random ebay muffler welded on the back.
The first one that comes up is OER brand which is listed for unknown, has 1 yr warranty and weighs 38 pounds lol.
The next is Bosal and lists for 257.99 weighs 25 pounds with limited lifetime warranty and is "aluminized". Part number 278-309
I compare this to RB which is 315 plus ship, weighs unknown (to me) and unknown (to me) warranty.
What do you guys think? Im thinking about trying out that Bosal. Sure, its not black like the RB but the ebay ricer muffler I have now is chrome so no biggie there. Has anyone tried or heard this muffler?
TIA
-IanS

I agree with 84 stock, i tried alot of other combinations prior to my power pulse muffler and none of them sounded near as good or provided as much power as the power pulse. Anything that I tried that did not drone or was not loud as hell killed the power. I love my power pulse.

that OER looks like the stock muffler, i'd be interested to see that.
bosal = crap. mazda switched to a "value line" system, and bosal supplied the exhaust parts, and they were not that great.
edit: OER looks like its crap too..

Personaly i wouldnt buy either the oer or bosal (Crap and more expensive crap) they will burn out pretty fast as they are not made to stand the rotary heat even tho they are made to fit a rotary engine. Also they are stock replacements so you wont gain any power if im going to spend that much money i want to make sure i get what its worth. I say this only because i was an employe for autozone for 3 years great job it was deffinately easy money but i know first hands most parts are very shitty quality so i would deff look at all my options before buying either!

i'm a firm believer (and promoter) of the Racing Beat ware, but if you're looking into alternatives, why not get some flanges, pipe and either a MagnaFlow or DynoMax/Walker? i don't know about pricing and such and if it would end up less than the RB, but i can speak on the DynoMax stuff being able to last with a rotary breathing through it. i had one for several years on one of my older Rx-7s. i've never used a MagnaFlow, but i've heard nothing bad about them either.

A lot of people also like the concept of duals to a y pipe into a magnaflow....something you can probably have done for a few cases of beer at the local muffler shop. One guy (in the NA performance forum) actually made quite a bit more power than the power pulse. He had done a lot of R&D however...
regardless, I think for the money it would/could be pretty comparable.

I also can't believe how much quieter it is. Next exhaust bit is putting on my header.
