Found a 85 FB for sale need advise..
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this. But I've looked through 1st gen FAQ and archive. Today I've found a FB 85 non GSL RX7. The body is in great shape. There's no crach on dash. The interior is clean. But I haven't got a chance to look under the car. After I look around I checked the engine. And I noticed something that's not normal. There's seem to be a coolant leaking around the top of the engine on the pass side of then engine. I don't know if it's spill or seals broke. When I start the car clouds of blue smoke covered the sky. The guy say "all Rx7 burns oil" I know what's true to a point. The car idles fine and rev and sound good. He's asking $600 for it. I don't know if that's a good deal or not. Also the car is an auto. I'm going back tomorrow to take some pics. I'm getting the car as a daily driver. I'm not a complete noobie to Rx7. So if there's something wrong with the car I should be able to fix with no problem. Only problem is how much. But any advise you guys can give it'll be greatly appreciated.
Only thing I'm mostly concert is the coolant leak and the smoke. Also I'll like to know what part of the car has the most rust problem. While I asked these question I'm still looking for the answear on my own.

sounds like the coolant seals may be shot, possible overheated motor.?. gsl is good, auto is bad.
take a phillips head screwdriver and pull the rear bins behind the seats and look for rust. that is by far the worst rust spot.

Clouds of blue smoke are not normal. Does the smoke quickly disapate? Does it smoke on decel, under load from high revs?
The coolant leak could be as simple as the o-rings between the intake and the block.
The auto would kill the deal for me. If the smoke stays, it's a $100 car.

Well... today I didn't have time to test drive the car... But I will tomorrow. But the smoke didn't clear after start up. Is there something wrong with FB with RX7 other than it's auto? I'm getting this car mainly for 2 hours high way driving...

Get a Civic or a CRX. As far as buying this FB goes, the auto is a deal killer to me... It's $100, maybe $200 car... And, if this guy is confusing oil with coolant, he's trying to **** you, lubricant optional. Walk away, find a different FB.

Bad deal. No matter what the problem is, it's still an auto. If it's for 2 hour highway driving, the auto will kill you for certain. I also agree with those that beleive it won't MAKE the 2 hour drive. As a matter of fact, it probably wouldn't make the drive HOME, even if it was down the street. This motor will require a rebuild, almost for sure, and should be GIVEN away as a parts car, not sold for $600.
I feel stupid for paying $600 for MINE, and it was a streetported motor!
