Heh,heh......great thread going here.
As a relative noob to this site myself,I can relate to the them.....to a point.
I was a regular on the Mazspeed site for some 6 years or so,after I got my 84.That site was great for stock to mild upgrade info, and I was really able to cut my teeth there, building my car up and learning the ropes. The guys in charge were were realistic and modest, and the advice was accurate.....the best way to learn,as a noob.We rarely ever got someone that came on asking about making 300-400HP or even much in the way of TII swaps,it just wasnt that kind of atmosphere, and it still isnt over there....which is partly why I migrated to this site.
Once my car project got out of control, and I started to get more questions about the work,I realized that this site had a lot more going on,in regards to that type of 1st gen modification. Now you guys know me.....Im always willing to share my experiences, and how I got my car to where it is now.But some of these guys (and I just KNEW this thread was gonna be about that "350HP for $1200" guy) just dont get it.They want to fly before they can even crawl, dont have the patience to learn what they need to learn, and would probably be a menace on the highway if they did accomplish their goal.Im not trying to push my beliefs on anyone, and its unfair to clump every newb into the same category. But can anyone here say that the first mod they made to their 1st gen,was to more than triple the factory HP? And for those who have, how many thousands and thousands of dollers have you spent?......I try to be friendly, and I usually am,but being realistic is more important,in my opinion.
Oh,and if anyone thinks they are being picked on for being a newb, try being a newb at another site.....like say,Pirate4x4!!
Youll get cursed out, cornholed and sent home bleeding over there, for something newb-ish that we here, might actually provide an answer for!

Lives on the Forum

I've seen that a lot of forums have a section titled something like "new members must read this before posting", or something along those lines. Maybe we need something like that, with instructions on searches, using the FAQ and Archive sections, how to use a correct and accurate title for a thread, What information to include in a thread, how to set up a signature line, etc....

I missed this thread? Man, the lounge is polluting me.
Now, with this whole situation, I felt bad when all of this went down and the guy said he was leaving. I wanted to tell him to not leave. I didn't. Yea, some here can be harsh on the newbs, I know, I was there at one time too. The newbs have to grow a thicker skin though and stick with it. This person didn't listen to a good portion of the advice given and in telling us he stated the initial question wrong he got very defensive, so much so it became offensive to some. The fact that he was acting so smug in telling me that I need to go look for things and see the cost of items when I was telling him I know the prices of GOOD products as I've been window shopping for both of my cars now for the better part of a year. Now more recently for my GSLSE which is only mine as of about two weeks ago. It was blatant disrespect when I was speaking from knowledge and he was supplying info from an Ebay seller who thinks a rotary needs piston rings and a cam shaft.
I'd like the guy to come back with an open mind. I'd like him to come learn and be able to better his experience with the car. It's a big thing to get a car and to be thwarted by a group of people online into not loving a great car and wanting to work with it or the community that supports them.
WE DON'T WANT TO BE KNOWN LIKE THE 2ND AND 3RD GEN SECTIONS DO WE?

ok now we just need to get the new guys to stop titling their threads "I searched..." "spent 2 hrs in archives..."
please title the thread that is related to the question at hand! it also helps when searching...

I came here not knowing a thing, and i still rarely post because frankly I dont really need to. Everything I want to know I find, theirs already always someone that has asked it before. Their is nothing worse then someone who comes to a forum and gets mad when their called stupid but doesnt take the time to learn anything themselves. That will just make them stupid for life. Its the internet, its not that hard, if the guy has the capabilities of signing onto the forum I'm sure he could type in the seach section and hit find. just my 2 cents

Something not really even mentioned here is that there are a lot of 1stgen RX-7 owners out there who don't even know about this website....amazing but true. Losing a noob here or there because they won't listen isn't the end of the world or this website. It's not that big a loss because there is a bigger pool of owners out there blissfully unaware of Ryan's site still buying and restoring these cars. We torpedo a guy that won't listen to solid advice, maybe he'll sell his car in frustration to someone looking for a 1stgen to restore.
Another 1stgen RX-7 saved from being modded to the junkyard and this website keeps a cadre of hard core enthusiasts who modify but keep their cars on the road.
I know I won't lose any sleep seeing a knucklehead leave in frustration. I just hope he sells the car.
