Flywheel Removal Ghetto style
I tried using my alternator braket to keep the flywheel from turning by using 1 bolt to the flywheel and 1 longer bolt to one of the bolt holes the tranny. The longer bolt bent...
So whats in the picture is a bike lock cable looped around one of the clutch bolts sticking out of the flyweel, then looped around the front of the engine. Worked awesome...
But now the engine rolled when i put weight on the flywheel nut. Soo step 2... remove the neck around the thermostat, and pull the thermostat, put a breaker bar down the hole.
For leverage I used the two pipes from my squat rack and as pictured we both pushed down and pop goes the nasty nut in 10 secs. No damage to the inside of the thermostat housing either.

The best way to remove a flywheel is with an impact wrench, then a BFH,and hit the outermost edge of the flywheel, and it will rock to that side, and pop off.Always leave the nut in place though, but not tight,so it doesn't fall off,and hurt someone.Mainly mister no shoes.

just to let you know, buying the baddest impact on the planet before buying a quality compressor with enough CFM will do you nothing. If i were you, i would invest in a nice standup compressor, then buy a CP or IR impact. I dunno about this nitrocat business, but anything in my book marketed on ebay with flames is for noobs......

Ingersoll-Rand 2135TI would be the last impact you will ever buy

you guys are definatly crazy not wearing shoes while working on an engine. if you dont have the cash to buy an air compressor and an impact, snap on sells an electric impact. works great, i own one. zipped the flywheel off of my camry 3VZ last night wit it. next time, try one , lol!

Use the Flywheel!!!!
You should not be using anything but the flywheel to react the troque. I welded a piece of steel strap to a 5 foot pipe, trimmmed it to clear the nut and drilled a few holes for the clutch bolts. Bolt that to the flywheel and then you can react the torque easily. I saw a guy break off a mounting lug from the rear cast iron trying to react the load that way.
As for being barefoot, these guys obviously don't understand simple basic physics, what do you expect. Working on cars is a learning experience!
