A '83 and later engine needs this flywheel...

You didn't pull the front main pulley off did you?

John
No I didnt' pull off the main front pully....you can buy lightened flywheels from racing beat.....6lbs lighter than stock they claim. Why will those not damage your engine if 3lbs will?

You need to use the rear counterweight from an AT car when using the light RB flywheels.

Cause they also provide a rear counter weight (for the year of the engine) that will balance the engine.

Well, I do not know what to do here guys.... I have been told that the lighter flywheel will damage my engine. So I put on the heavier flywheel, and it now vibrates, and so I was told to put the lighter flywheel back on. I was told it does not matter either way aswell... I do not know what to believe, or what to do.. I just know I cannot afford another engine at this time, and I need this car to commute, daily. Is it safe with a vibration? Is it going to ruin my engine? Is the vibration just being magnified from the increase of weight of the "correct" flywheel, was the vibration there all along but not really noticable due to the lighter weight on the "incorrect" flywheel?

It does matter. Since youve identified the motor as an 83+ (cause it has the Tee) it needs the heavier FW. One thought. You do realize that they use 2 different clutches? The early cars had a 215mm clutch and the later 83+ had a 225mm clutch. Mebbe thats causing your vibration?

Thinking about this... I had a buddy that did his own flywheel/clutch installations and had a simular problem I recall.

He never got the flywheel seated properly cause he did not have a air impact that would hit 300ft. lb. Just checking, are you putting the flywheel nut back on with a impact or a long bar set up.

Just asking....

I changed the clutch and pressure plate to the larger appropriate one. And to put the nut on I was using a wrench thats it....I really doubt its tourqed down to 300ft lbs tho if thats what its supposed to be at.... the manual I have is pretty crappy, it covers all rx7's up until 88, and older 626's, 323's, and a couple of other models also so, it did't say what to tourque it to..... not that I could find anyways....So that could be whats throwing things out... maybe the flywheel isn't seated quite right....

the nut to the required 350 foot-pounds with good accuracy according to Racing Beat site.

Didn't feel like digging out the shop manual.
