First start of the season, a few problems, but overall happy

Whats up everyone. It's been a long *** time since I last posted. I finally found some time to get my FB fired today. She ran over spring break one day, and then the last time I had her out was before I left for school last August. Right now I need to get new plates and insurance, but she's running.

Over spring break my best friend from school (I also graduated High School with him) came down to get his Wisdom teeth out at his old dentist in my hometown. While he was home, on one of my days off, we replaced my dented drivers door and the dented drivers front quarter, along with the dented header panel. Damn women drivers not watching where they are backing. The parts came off of an '80 SA, and i'm happy to say that all of the body lines are exactly the same as those on a FB. The quarter panel is a little bit different, but with a half dozen coats of black krylon on there, no one can really notice. We also converted from Vacuum to Mechanical secondaries. She is an absolute rocket now.

I drove her (albeit illegally) to Sears Automotive to have the rear tires replaced. They were dry-rotted to the point that one of the rears would only hold air for 2.5 days. I told the tech this, and he was like "come here and look at the tire, i'll show you why!" He pushed on the sidewall of the tire, and all the way around, where the tread is bonded to the sidewall, the tire just caved in. All that was holding it together was the inner carcas. Luckally, I only drove city streets all the way there. He said that it was the worst tire he'd ever seen driven into the shop (meaning that he'd seen worse still on the rims, but this was the worst one anyone has ever driven in on). No worrys though, I got some Potenza RE910's from the previous owner, and those are getting mounted on there. They ran into one problem with the passenger rear wheel, the head on the stud popped off before the stud would budge from the drum. Needless to say, they're keeping the car overnight, and more than likely replacing my brake drum and studs for free .

It wouldn't start with my fresh (as of last august) Optima Red Top in it, so my parents gave me a push down the 1/2 mile long hill that is at the end of my driveway, and it took 3 tries, but she finally started by bumpstarting. I was shocked at how easily it fired. I ran a few laps of my subdivision, and then had her idling in my driveway. Just before I left for new tires, I saw that my oil pressure was a bit low. Reluctantly, I shut her down and checked my oil. It's a little bit dirty, but full nonetheless, so I figured that it was just warm oil and I'd be fine. Cruising at ~3k, I have over 60psi of oil pressure, so I'm thinking that i'm good. Once again, she wouldn't start, so I threw my little brother's Meijer special marine deep cycle battery in, and tried to start her.

I thought she flooded again! My dad was like "put your foot on the floor and crank it". I did, and nothing. He was like "do it again", and this time, she fired relatively easily.

Finally, when I put her away for storage, I pulled the battery and left it on a 2amp trickle charge for the week before Thanksgiving. When it hit 100%, I took it off. The damn thing doesn't hold a charge now! The guy at Sears tested it, and it came back bad, but since I bought it at Murray's, I have to exchange it there. I stopped at Murray's after my parents picked me up, and the guy there said that it tested bad, but that he'd have to put it on the charger for ~40 minutes to verify that it was a bad battery. I didn't have the time tonight, so tomorrow after my Midterm i'm going to go and get a new battery.

When I find the pictures that I took of us working on swapping body parts and doing the carb, I'll post them up here.

No kidding Kentetsu. School in the UP = No FB action .

When is it? If it's more than a month out, i'll be able to get the day off of my weekend job. Or I may just call off . Right now I have a serious issue with my passenger rear wheel, i'm going to start a thread about it to see what everyone else says.

Check www.furrin.org

I don't think they have a solid date yet, but will be posted as soon as they get it. It will be at the university somewhere...

We also have one June 30th just south of GR...
