steve and kevin would a stand alone work with a different CAS and i don't really trust the stock electronic OMP. wasn't that a problem w/ the 93's anyway? if i used the SE oil pan and the front cover this would eliminate mounting issues. seems like if i drill for the oil return, use a stand alone and figure out transmision issue, then i should be rolling.. run the motor basicly stock and be happy... i'll worry about performance issues after motor is in car and functioning.. btw what kind of tranny pieces do i need to be on the look out for?

I don't think the se oil pan will work even if you put a se front cover on it because of the weird bolt positions in the rear side housing. However you might beable to solve that problem by taping new holes for the se oil pan. For the CAS you could just use one for a sencond gen and then programe the stand alone acordingly. As for the tranny the best bet is to use a TII trany, I used the 3rd gen trany but had make a complete custom mount for it.

go stand alone , trust me if you like modifying you will need it , and i used 12a cover for the mounting ,you would use the 12a mounting bracket after you straighten it or go with a se bracket, that takes care of your mounting issue , just had to weld the flange for the turbo drain you will see the place for the drain you just have to weld one ear for the mounting bolt of the drain flange " simple " , you can use t2 cas and that will take care of your ignition pick up. delete the omp and go premix its much safer . se oil pan will work as well , you have to drill couple of holes for the back plate , mine worked great and 8 month later still has no leaks.
go with t2 trans unless you have the 3rd gen trans. i have the t2 trans , the shifter went back like 1.5 inches , used the stock mounts just had to redrill the holes real easy swap , and you an go with t2 clutch .
drive shaft has to be custom , i went with 3" custom .

Is there a detailed write up on this at all? A complete shopping list, and where to buy custome drive shafts?

crazy ugly coyote posted a good question.... you know there has to be a write up on all the details of this swap... crazy you should be able to go to any local drive line shop for the shaft mod.... and check back to see if anyone responds to the write up info...

There is no write up here, at nopistons or on ausrotary.

If there was a write up, it'd be in the archive, crosslinked into the FAQ, bookmarked on my browser and dualy saved onto my machine, with the images on a backup server incase the original host died.

The only person I know who has completed the swap is kevin, and he didn't make a writeup. We'd love to see one, heck some of us would pay to see one, but alas, it has yet to be done.

Jon

Just a couple thoughts:

If you want a 13btt go with the cosmo. If you already have the rew just make the modifications. I wish that I would have gone this way, would have been a lot easier.

Also this is the 3rd and final time that I will ask. Since I am working on the swap as we speak all the information is fresh in my head. Do you guys want me do do a write up? Guess that it is the 3rd stike you are out theory. I have been keeping notes and trying to take pictures. There is quite a bit of valuable information out there it is just not in one specific location.

My build is with a large single and standalone with quite a few other engine mods but for those wanting to do the swap they might be able to get a better idea of the time and money that needs to be dumped into this. If you do not have deep pockets and or great connections this is not for you. I could have easily bought a modded 3rd gen with the same dollar amount.

LMK,

Z

well, my original build was with the stock ecu, stock twins, and stock 3rd gen trany, basicaly it was to put the set up in my car for the least amount of money, which I think I acomplished quite well with the final price being around $2,700 which included every thing ... new welder, cherry picker, all the steel, the whole 3rd gen set up, and the rest of the odds and ends.

No money needed. I have gained much valuable information from the people here...it is all free information. Is there any other interest?

Kevin...wow nice price tag. I have yet to see anyone come close to that dollar amount for a 3rd gen. Good work.

As for ECU use a microtec/haltech/or some other variety of your tuners choice.

Use a 2nd gen cas in a GSL-SE front cover. You will need to weld on a bung for the oil return into the pan.

Block off the OMP and run premix.

Put that together with my previous post. Stock ECU isn't gonna be worth a **** anyway.. Soon as you open up the exhaust/intake the stock ECU is not gonna work worth a damn.

Write up please

I am currently doing this swap myself. $1200.00 for the engine, $2000.00 labor for the rebuild/port/paint/polish, $1500.00 for the rebuild kit, $275.00 for the T2 Trans. and I still have to buy a new turbo, intercooler, piping, ecu cause Im going with a single and custom exhaust, fuel pump, custom driveshaft etc... I dont know what it is going to cost but I think its going to be a lot. I would also be so interested in a complete write up to the point that I would pay.

Modified85, what color is that? I was thinking of going with a darker silver when i get mine repainted, possible same color as titanium silver. Anyways

A write up would be great, i've been trying to a find a shop out here in so cal that will do the swap for me since i'll be deployed for 9 months here pretty soon, and for the simple fact if i wasnt.....i dont have the room or tools availble to me to do it on my own! If we do get a write up, i'll just have to push my project back until i get out so i can do it myself.

I am working on the write up as we speak. The only problem is that it will take a little time as I am undergoing to swap right now. Maybe Kevin wants to do a quick write up and then mine can supplement his. Just something that goes over the basics.

I am trying to be general at the beggening as I hope to eliminate all those annoying threads that say ohhh 3rd gen mtor...can it work?

Like I said above I will not be done with the write up until May though. I might be able to get it done a little earlier depending how busy I get with other things. Just do not want to make any promises that I cannot hold.
