Finding History
I recently purchased a 1st Gen RX-7. 1980 GS to be more precise. I have been a big fan of these cars for years and now I have a chance to fix one up and keep it for my own, also maybe do a bit of Autocross and IT racing with it, but that is for later. Anyway, this car has been beat up a bit but is in good shape for it's year. It has been repainted a different color from stock (for shame) and the interior is a mess (I will be replacing). The paint tag is missing, does anyone know if I can track the original colors from the VIN? If so what is the best source for the info, Mazda? Another source? If anyone can help it would be great.
Thanks...
Thanks...

On 79 and 80 models, they had VIN's such as SA22C-580378
SA2 = RX7 1979-80
2= 1146cc 12A rotary
C= Couple
######
The paint code for the car was actually on the drivers side of the hood inside. It would be something like Paint code K6 or soemthing
Oh by the way if you wanna know the orginal color of the car just look inside the firewall, under the carpet by the rocker or somewhere like that... I doubt they painted everywhere
Also once you know the basic color you can check with your local paint shop , they will usually have a book with all the colors for the car that were available at that time...

First of all everyone thanks, I will give a shot to the online solutions and see what I can come up with. As far as the paint tag, no luck, they pealed it off when they painted it. They also changed the interior carpet and seats without changing door panels or the top of the dash (which needs to be repaired or replaced due to cracking) I know about looking at the firewall or under the carpet or something along those lines, and while yes this would be OK if I could then compare that to the colors for that year, I figure the more information the better (since you never know they may have had two colors that were pretty close).
So thank you all again... :-)
