Fiero electric fan in a Se.
I finally decided to install the Fiero fan that I had into the SE. I am using the heavy duty one that came with the V6 model not the 4 cyl. As you will see by the attached pictures it fits very well on the stock radiator and is a good sized fan.
Since I will be in an area that the summers are relatively mild and most of the driving I will be doing is highway it will be off most of the time. That means that there will be less drag on the engine and less strain overall on the water pump bearing. Well see if there is any improvement in overall MPG.
Because the large size of the fan I had to remove the lower pulley for the A/C system. There is zero clearance and I could of tried filing some area off of the outer casing of the fan but I did not want to damage it. If I want to use the A/C I will have to get creative and find a smaller diameter pulley.
Checked the difference in weights between the stock fan,fan clutch, spacer, and fan shroud verus the electric fan assembly. With the questionable digital bath scale that I am using there is no difference. Both systems weighed in at 6 LBS approxiimately.
For now I have it wired to a standard off/on toggle switch. I do no care for those adjustable t'/stats that go into the radiator hose. I may adapt into the bottom of the radiator and install a standard cooling fan switch later on.

Hey Doc we might have been installing electric fans at the same time!! This is a taurus fan in the stock shroud took a little trimming and fitting but its in there now with about 1/2in in between fan and water pump pully.

so which one flows more air? the tarus fan or the fiero fan? currently I am useing a dual fan unit from summit, and its ok until bumper to bumper traffic sets in, then I have to shut off the A/C till it catchs up.

You got that right. That car is a major pain to work on. I once did a alternator in one and it took hours.
Kenn_chan,
I don't know which one has a higher CFM. I do know that because the radiator is in the front of the vehicle and it has to keep the temp down enough while it is flowing from the back of the vehicle to the front that it has to put out alot.
