FI Conversion ... coming along

Check it out. Did quite a bit of work today. Intake and TB on, tank in, pump in, hoses complete. Just need to hook up the wiring and she's ready for test and tune.

Yeah, it's a Tweakit surge tank. I am a bit disappointed because it is mild steel and the inside has begun to rust a bit where it sat around my garage for awhile. Although, it was very easy to mount, and it will serve its purpose well, and I can't say the stock hard lines are spic-and-span, either. For anyone else, though, I would recommend a custom aluminum tank if possible..
The TB is an IDF style from CB Performance. A good unit and it looks cool. My only gripe is that it has just 2 injector bungs instead of 4, so I am limited to 12a non-turbo to an unlikable degree.

You should be able to run a turbo if you get sufficiently large injectors. There are more than a few GSL-SE's running around with turbos installed while still using the stock injectors, IIRC.

GSL-SEs have something like 720cc injectors. Mine are 42#, or 440cc or so..
These are the biggest I found that I know would fit my rail and TB, which is GM style. It'd be nice to be able to use some top-feed bosch style injectors.

Just got the wiring done a little while ago. Gettin a little too warm out, tho...

Well, folks. My MS project has moved to "installed" status.

It needs some tuning, but I was able to go for a drive and get some datalogs to get my VE table right. Got some other issues to deal with, but it is HEAPS better than the carb that was on it. Even in poor tune it's got more power and best of all it doesn't die everytime I let off the gas. I already like it lots.

More than a little.

Yeah, it has some boggage going on. Actually, I had a DCOE long ago and it did the exact same thing. This is slightly easier to tune, however.
Drove it around earlier and got some datalogs to tinker with. Gotta do more reading about tuning out this boggage. It's time to take a break from workin on this thing for awhile, tho.
Glad I got a daily driver.

How come you decided to mount the surge tank in the engine bay? Looks like it's designed to be mounted on the frame rail. Are you using the stock fuel pump as the pre-pump?

On the frame rail? Where exactly? It is pretty tall. This seems like the best place to me. I thought the "side mount tank" was designed to mount on the strut tower...
Yes, the stocker is pumping into the surge tank. At some point, I'll change it out, though, and put in a advance auto replacement puralator or somethin. This one is pretty old.

That's why the bracket is cut on an angle to mount on the frame rail near the diff.

Near the diff on the rail? I just can't see it.. "to resolve fuel sloshing in the tank during cornering causing dry spots in the pump line" or whatever.. I don't see how the exact same thing wouldn't happen to this one unless you mount it right side up, and there isn't a whole lot of room down there to put this straight up and down. I would be curious to see how other people have done it, however, if you have some pics of what you're talking about.
I may have heard people talking about mounting these on the frame rail, but the rail in the engine bay using the bottom mount type...

Anyways, for my app it works well in this spot.

No, this is something I custom made myself. The manifold was welded up by a friend of mine for me. The ECU is megasquirt. I can't imagine how much it'd be for TWM's FI kit.. and I' m too lazy to check. :P
The project is done pretty much. Just needs tuning. Check out the vid.
I'll post up later the details and parts I used for the interested folks.

I have a Megasquirt on my ported GSL-SE. I found that telling the ecu that the engine is a 2.6 liter 4 cylinder lets the car start right up. However this is only enough to just get it started. You really have to richen up the mixtures across the board to get it running good. Then I did some figuring to try to find a way to enter in the values so I wouldn't have to go to all of this trouble. The rotary uses roughly 10 lbs of air to make 1 hp vs a piston engine which typically uses 7 lbs of air to make 1 hp. This is about 40% more air per the same amount of power. Based on this info I decided to tell the ecu that my engine was about 40% larger than a 2.6 liter which it now reads as a 3.6 liter 4 cylinder. It still starts right up but is much easier to get running good as the mixtures are MUCH closer to where they need to be. I assume with a 12A you are entering in as a 2.4 liter 4 cylinder into the ecu. Save that map and try entering a new setup with the engine size as a 3.3 liter 4 cylinder. See how that does. If it works anything like mine did, it will be much easier to get running good faster.
