FD to FB Alnatorter Swap

I ordered the FD Alternator kit from Silverrotor. This will upgrade the electrical system on a FB from 50amps to 100amps. I was interested in this mod because I have been wanting to order the 180 Black Magic electric fan from Flex-a-lite. This fan has a 18 amp draw. I want the e-fan because I recently had my air conditioning fixed and the mechanic advised me that my fan clutch isnt very good and I am getting higher then normal under hood temperatures while idling. Sure enough he was right because my air compressor popped while sitting at a red light on a hot florida afternoon. There are some other advantages to the e-fan as well, less drag on the engine with out the belt driven fan, cheaper then a new mechanical fan clutch, cleaner looking engine bay and I plan to put a switch inside the car and will have control over when the fan is on. I also plan on using a thermostat and trigger a relay off the a.c. This mod is great. My windows go up much faster at idle and the car seems to be happier over all. Thanks Silverrotor!

Nice upgrade. I may have to get one of those before they aren't available anymore. I just upgraded mine to an FC 80 amp alt and it made one hell of a difference. I use a Black Magic Fan, too. Those things sure pull amps.

upgrade

ChasRX, how well does the black magic fan work with the A.C. on? Have you ever been in bad trafic with the black magic and the A.C. on? Im hoping to really pull some CFM's at Idle. The upgrade was pretty easy and silverrotor was good to work with.

I use a Volvo 850 Turbo Fan. Fits perferct. All I had to cut was where the inlet and outlet were on the radiator, and the oil cooler. It's about the same dimensions as the stocker, and it even covers the oil cooler.

At 3000 rpm with the fan on, the voltmeter only reads 12 volts. I need to upgrade too.

I need a freon recharge for my AC to actually kick on, yet; so, I don't know yet since I've upgraded my alt. It's my hobby car and haven't made it a point to recharge the AC system.
