FC leading coil on a 79 12A?

I've looked and looked and can't seem to find exactly what I'm trying to do. I'm going to switch my 89 points dizzy to an 83 electronic dizzy and upgrade the coils to the 12V since the points system runs on 9V. I have a pack of FC leading coils laying around and was trying to find a write-up on how to (if possible) wire them in and use them correctly. I know I'll have to upgrade the spark plugs from the original stock points spark plugs, just curious if anyone has done it before I go and fry the coils/ignitors/cap/rotor.

Not sure if it matters, but, it's a stock Port 12A, rats nest, air pump, heat exchanger deleted. Stripped Nikki, welded secondaries, manual choke.

The body of the coil will be marked for use with resistor or for electronic ignition.

I have a setup just like that you describe. I removed the '79 points distributor and resistor coils, disconnected the resistors, Installed a later year electronic distributor with J-109 igniters and coils marked for electronic ignition. I powered the coils with the hot leads from the disconnected resistors. Works beautifully.

Awesome, so it's not hard. I had an idea kind of drawn out in my head, but you just confirmed it AND tied in the lose ends. Thank you for your input 🤘😁

Do you have the connectors for the ignitors? If not, you will need to find some or you can make them.

Lots of ways to do this. Search on DFIS for more detailed info. Yes the FC leading can be used by stripping out the guts and just powering the coil directly. I have on one my 80 SA right now.

I don't have connectors, but I believe I have a couple of harnesses and my friend does as well, so I can probably get the connectors from there. Otherwise, I've built multiple harnesses, so making connectors shouldn't be too hard I don't think.

I am in the middle of doing this mod my self on my 79. I upgraded to an FC fuse block as well.
