FB headers
I just recently did a buy for 10 FC headers and had a couple requests for 12A headers...so I need something from you guys.
I need the stock manifold and the first cat. Anyone help?
(doesn't have to be a good cat, just need a spacer for a jig)

You gonna fab some 12A headers Mak? The cat setups changed thru the years, so if this is gonna be a bolt on setup, you need something for each change Mazda made.

it WILL run
the VB cat has some pretty good illustrations and will help
makeing a universal 12a header should be too bad, just make different midpipes (header to cat) for the different years and it should be no prob

I have a coupld of Victoria Brittish issues at home...I'll have to look at them. At any rate I would need a physical example from each model to make a universal header.
Jammer....I'll PM you shortly...

Seriously though, you need examples of each system so you can do like William said.

Yes...I would need the manifold to the first cat from each varient in order to make a propper jig to "universalize" them...I would liek to make a product that any 12A'er could purchase without worrying about fitment.

I'll be paying the shipping when I can...or will give a discount to people who have parts to donate/ship and want a header.
Anyone know if the 13b exhaust flange will fit the 12A?

How much will the price be? And what month will it be available? Will it be two inch diameter? I was under the impression that 2-inch piping on the 12a was the best mix of volume and velocity.

I'm not sure of the exhaust port size on the 12A (I thought they were 2" like the 13B?)...the runners will be the same as those. I was thinking collecting into a 2.25~.5" system...but I haven't done much research into it yet. The header it's self will be $125 + shipping.
BKM....do you still have the first cat that goes to it?
Also...I'm quite engrossed in my current batch of headers. I can't see any reason why I wouldn't be finnished before deadline, but, just in case, I'm not going to promise work on the 12A headers until August.

Yes...that was the original idea. I wanted a header that could bolt up to the factory exhaust with minimal modification. No current manufacturer offers that other than my establishment, Shattered Glass Works. A lot fo people, however, wanted to replace everything to the "Y" on the FC RX-7...so I got drug into that.
That basic header, though, I like to build to where it will bolt up to the factory exhaust with minimal effort.

I have my 79 manifold from engine to muffler actually. I have a weld together racing beat race port header and really like it. I think i wanna change it but not sure, cause it leakes where it connects to the rest of the custom exuast, due to a mechanic that rigged it all up for me..... Anyway, if you need eaither or both, tell me.

Mak, I have the entire stock exhaust from an 82, and believe I have the stock mani+first cat from an 85.
Let me know if you want them and we'll arrange getting them to you.

Anex, pratch, I'm looking to start with the first 12A's when I take these on. Will a header designed to replace the mani and first cat on the '79 fit the '82 without problem? If so then I'd only need one or the other. What about the '85? Wouldn't the 85' be 13b? I was under the impression that the mani/cat assembly from the FC 13B would fit the later FB's...?

79 mani and cat are like really different from the rest of the years. The best way to do this is prolly make 2 pieces, upper and lowwer, The upper woulf fir any 12 and lower would be year specific. Correct me if thats not the best idea for easy..

81-85 12a should all share the same fit.
Both the 82 and 85 mani/cats I'd have would have come from 12a engines.
The 84-85 were mostly 12a - the GSL-SE (only made in 84-85) were 13b engines but only about 2? 5? percent of the total number delivered for those years.
the 79 and 80 (I think - might just be 79) had a thermal reactor instead of the exhaust manifold. That would be one that wouldn't match up like the others.
Either way, more models were sold from 81-85 than 79 and 80. Shaft the SA drivers a bit and hook up the FBers

FYI, the Racing Beat headers for a manual hit when installed in an automatic. I swapped my engine and 5-speed into an auto car. I recall having to remove the heatshield and hack one of the heat shield mounting points off. It was really tight with the floorpan.
Also, the header dumped really close to the auto transmission's crossmember. The midpipe would hit the crossmember even after I took a BFH to it.
