Exclamation FB found...need to know value *pics*

I found two FB's for sale on craigslist by the same person. I emailed him asking what's up, the usual deal, how much. Well he wants me to make him an offer. Seeing as i don't know what a good value for these cars, I thought you all could help me out. The one I'm buying of the two looks to be an 82...just a guess. To quote his email....
The one that you want has a good body but it will need new interior such as seats and door panels. I put a new clutch plate in it and I have a new radiator, alternator, brake pads, and belts. I have had both engines running at one time. the other car is having some fuel problems as well. There is plenty of gas getting to the carburetor but it doesn't seam to be getting from the carburetor to the engine very well. I think it just needs a new carburetor or that one just needs to be cleaned out. As far as I know that is the only thing wrong with the engines. I have driven it up and down my rode but we did have to pull start it and it had a hard time idling because it wasn't getting enough gas (I think). The car with the good body is missing the passenger window but you can get that out of the other car. Both windshields are cracked. The car you are interested in is almost rust free. These cars are from Florida so they haven't been driven on a lot of salty roads. The only rust on the car that I know of is a little on the bottom corners of the doors.
How much should I make an offer for this one?

Thank you for all the help, I am really trying to get an FB since my first taste of driving one in the summer.

Well first things first I would check to see if it has any bin rust (remove bins behind seats and look in the wheel well corners). This is the most common location for cancer in these cars. If the cancer hasn't eatten right through I would offer him a few hundred dollars and explain to him how all the interior will need to be fixed up, replace etc. If you enjoy fixing cars and working on them yourself this could be a awesome project.

If you have a daily driver already and are looking for a project, this is a decent place to start. If you are expecting this car to drive like a brand new car, its not likely going to happen without alot of TLC, money, automotive knowledge, and research.

Carb problems or not, if it has to be pull started, it may have low compression. Do a compression test before buying it.

Thing is, I won't be able to make the trip down there (hour drive) with school and work. Should I buy it sight unseen? I am looking for a project. One because I want a car how I want it to be, not what the factory thinks (Style wise, perhaps motor), and I am going to school to be a mechanic. Really what I want is a nice beater for Solo 2, Road rallies, etc. Offer 350-400?

If the bin area is almost rust free (not likely), then mabey $500. Having to pull start it is never a good thing. It not going to start if there is a lack of fuel weather it is pull started or not. Something is wrong internally.

Oh ya, if the bin area is rusted through, I wouldn't even bother with the car. Trust me, I've fixed the bin rust before and its not an easy job. Its easier and in some cases cheaper to just find one without too much bin rust.

I sent him an email explaining the motor may need to be pulled, the interior to be replaced, and to please check for bin rust.

There's no way anyone could give you an actual value on here. These cars are all about "what it's worth to you". They almost have no "official" value.
Personally, I wouldn't pay more than $300 for it, running or not. Others may find something more special in it, and others may say it's too far gone.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, these are kinda special little cars that become part of your family when you find the right one. So you've gotta determine the value yourself. If the car already found it's spot in your heart, any price will be worth it.

$300-400 max

wait, maybe 200-300 is more like it - it will take 2000 easy to get it looking decent.

I don't know values where you live, but out here in Cali, I wouldn't pay more than $300 for it.

This is a $300 car that's not far from me:

Here's another consideration. A lot of people would pay $200 or better, just for the wheels, depending on condition.

I had that thought, as well. How much is he asking for BOTH cars? If it's feesible, buy them both, combine to make 1 good car, sell the parts from the other & get some of your cash back.

Just as a parts car It should be worth $200. And with it not running that is all it is worth to me. Add a little for the wheels and $300 is fair, if it has a good title.

If he does not want to give a price then start at $100.

I dislike people who want to sale something but will not make you a price.

My parents won't let me buy two, much less keep one in the driveway. I'd have to find somewhere to put them. but I posted on my local forum, looking for 79-85 RX-7, just has to be a five speed. and I got a PM saying this guy had one with low compression, clean body, for $150, located not five minutes from here. So i'm trying to buy this one.

Low compression means a rebuild. There's no other fix for it. Do your research, and make sure you want to dive that deep.
