Extra 2-cycle lube worked great!

My 85GSL has had a stumble at 4000 RPM since I got it 2 years ago. I've used MMO regularly and 2-cycle occasionally as a premix, and the other day I accidently put in 12 oz. instead of 4 oz. of 2-cycle synthetic with the tank of gas, and voila! The stumble is gone! Not only that, it runs almost as smooth as my 83 (which is the smoothest running motor I've ever experienced, perhaps because I'm the only one to drive it in 22 years). I don't know how to explain it, unless that synthetic has some kind of detergent that finally dissolved some shmutz in the carb.

Question

Man, I'm gonna sound like such a n00b, and yes, I know I can figure this out by doing a search, but I figured I'd just ask you directly. What is the reasoning for adding this to your fuel to begin with?

Thanks!

Jeff

Premix. Some people(like me) take off the metering oil pump, which pumps small amounts of your oil into the carb to lube engine parts. then run 1oz per gallon of 2-cycle oil

so what makes pre-mixing do a better job than what the metering oil pump does if they in fact, do the same type of thing?

its the difference in the oils and when the oil is introduced to the engine components.

Oh hush! :P It was the server, ok? hehehehehe.... I waited over a minute for it to refresh, even went and re-loaded the thread several times and it never showed up (in order to see if it really did post but the page didn't refresh). So it's not my fault! (not totally anyway)

You're right though... it is pretty ironic.

the reason some people do this is that bunlike later cars, ours have no way of telling thdriver if the OMP is out driving with it out leads to major bad stuff, no oil

My OMP is working, but I like to premix MMO or 2-cycle because it burns clean and it makes the engine run better.

premix lubes better... its a proven fact. If you want that engine to look clean as hell once u eventually pull it apart run premix. If you want some black carbon and goo... run the OMP

Does anyone in here have any experience with the mechanical or electrical pump to replace the OMP. I think it is rotaryaviation that designed it, replaces the OMP and runs 2-cycle through the omp lines. I can't find the site so i can't thorougly explain it, but if you know what i'm talking about does anyone use one?

Sorry to gank your post.

not to steal the thread but couldn't you use an omp to pump 2cycl oil from a small oil tank?

Most of the benifit that comes from premix is the fact that it lubricates all the seals very evenly, and lubricates them better. pumping in anything into the engine through just the OMP lines doens't lubricate the side and corner seals very well, and even leaves some dto be desired on the apex seals as well.

The fact that it burns cleaner is just a bonus.

Why bother buying a new OMP, when the OMP is so easy to rebuild?

loweperformance has the rebuild kits for like $20USD, and you can rebuild one quite quickly and easily. It has been said that OMPs never *fail* their seals just die.

I rebuilt mine, works so far

Want the extra peace of mind that my new $2200 REPU motor will get the oiling it needs. I coulda rebuilt it, but while I was at mazdatrix getting gobs other stuff I added a new OMP to the list.
