Exhaust question

Does a blown gasket at the manifold and rest of the exhaust make a 7 run like crap???
The car kinda sputters and sounds like it's back firing a little, but when you give it gas and get going it quits doing it.

are you referring to the exhaust manifold gasket? if you are then none of the symptoms you described would be there.

vacuum leak?

I was thinking vacuum leak too. It won't idle with the choke all the way in, it has to be about half way out and it will run about 1000rpm.
The gasket I was referring to is the one right after the manifold, I guess it connects to a cat. converter.

Maybe carbon build up? Was going to try the "ATF" treatment if enough people thought it would help.

Anyways, this is my first rotary and carbureted motor, so I'm still learning. Feel free to roast me a little.

dont forget guys, any leak in the exhaust anywhere in the system can allow air to be sucked into the exhaust, even at the manifold, which in turn can cause sputtering/backfiring, PARTICULARLY on decel or idle because thats when the exhaust pulse will be the richest.

I have a chronic exhaust leak where you describe, the surface of the manifold and pipe don't mate that well, and I keep patching it up every few months. It will have to do until I finally get a header and presilencer to replace it.

Anwyay, on my car the car doesn't really run that bad, but when it leaks it loses a LOT of power, a lot of noise, and it does some backfiring that sounds like it's coming from under the shifter.
