Electrical Switch Problem - 85 GS
So trying to solve problem, please help if possible.
Problem: Parking Lights/Headlight Switch is loosei guess because even when turned completely off, the parking lights turn on. If you turn the switch more in the off direction the lights turn off but when you release it they turn on again. This drains the battery because lights turn on when car is turned off.
So two options: Changing entire multi switch thing which im guessing is fairly involved and tedious work.
Other option would be just disconnecting the parking lights and headlights and re-routing to another switch.
The second option sounds more realistic but i dont know how hard it will be to wire this up. I have some experience with installing switches but its just the whole "dual function" part im getting nervous over.
Any suggestions/ideas/opinions or experience please reply!!!!!
Thanks in advance,
-Aure

Yep. It is easy to replace:
- remove plastic surroud
- remove horn cover, remove nut, pull off steering wheel
- remove electrical connectors from the switch
- loosen metal strap that keeps combo switch in place
- slide off
- install new switch in reverse order
One thing: there are two nipples on this center ring that must line up with the two small holes on back of steering wheel. They are plastic and tend to be brittle. If not lined up, they will break and you'll lose the automatic cancelling of the turn signals. Good news is that you can get that piece new from Mazda for only like $3-$4. I have posted the part number on here a couple of times. Search under my posts for 'Cancel Cam'. It should turn up.

put it more in the off direction so they go off, hold it there and then have some one disconnect the battery. let go, then put the battery cables back on then tell me what happens
