Electrical prob kickin' my behind

Electrical prob kickin' my behind
I have an 85 SE and the problem is that when I turn
the parking lights on, it will blow the fuse. I traced the
cables from front to rear and everything is fine. I finally
gave up and took it to a shop where I was told it was
the alternator, after spending 2 hours laughing at their
face I took it to another shop where they have this
computer to find that sort of problems with no luck.
I had 12' speakers installed and an alarm about 4
months ago. Does one thing have to do with the other?
Does anyone have any idea about this? I grew up
around FB's and I never heard of this weird one?
Any help will be appreciated.

Check the illumination wire on the stereo. It is wired to the park light circuit and if it is cut and toutching the frame of the radio or a ground in the dash it will blow the fuse. I assumed you have an aftermarket deck.

Try unplugging the alarm and see if that helps. They may have tapped into that circuit for a sense wire. Also did they pull the deck out to tap off the speaker wires for the amp? Maybe the illum. wire is pinched?

There are no illumination wires on the stock radio (to my knowledge). But then I removed it as soon as I got my car too so I don't know. There are no speaker wires at the radio itself. It uses external amps. So that rules out the removal of the stereo all together.
It might be a short in your alarm. Check EVERYTHING. Any wires that are even remotely related to the lights could have a problem. Something as simple as one of the wires for the dash lights could have shorted out.

Did you check the wires under the shift boot? There is a male and female bullet connector that should be unplugged. These are for illumination for the automatic transmission cars. Many people make the mistake of seeing these two unconnected wires and plugging them into each other. This will at the very least cause the fuse to blow and will often damage the transistor in the dimmer switch in the process.
When the dimmer switch fails, it can either fail so that the lighting is at full brightness (not able to dim) or fail so that the lighting does not come on at all.
