Electrical Help, its not the starter
Okay, now that I've got a new starter...and good, had it tested at napa today...I still cant seem to start the rx7. I installed the new starter, connected all the wires, correctly. Car wouldn't start so i checked volts, it was a bit below 8 so i hooked up the kia to give it a jump and some extra juice figuring that would get it done...nope. Battery started smoking...so I KNOW thats bad. I ended up roll starting it to move it into the driveway. It drove fine once i started it, minus a lot of smoke off the exhaust manifold. I replaced the OMP seal while the car was sitting awaiting the arrival of my new starter and i removed the rats nest as well. Now I figure the smoke is from the oil burning off the manifold and the engine cleaner that I sprayed on there to de-gunk it before replacing the OMP seal. I am perplexed though as far as the car not starting...do I have a wiring short or new battery? wires crossed somewhere? Im confused as hell. Any help would be appreciated.

was wondering, theres a lot of oil and grease under the car from all the suspension bushings bursting and the oil leak from the now replaced omp seal...could the fluid have anything to do with this?

Check the terminals on the battery... I had just a click when I turned the key, no start... After trying a new starter it did the same thing. Turned out all I need was new battery terminals ($5) and a good cleaning to the posts vs a new starter ($65). Definatly worth a try espically since it's cheap and won't hurt to clean your terminals anyway. Also make sure there is no corrosion on any of the wires where they make a connection, starter included. Have the battery tested at NAPA if you don't have your own tester also... ????

Looks like the white/red primary ignition wire is whats faulty. I'm not sure, but I think its a short. I replaced the battery and re-checked the starter, and when i plugged the test light onto the wire I got power at first, but then it flicked off and I haven't been able to find power on that wire since. I have no power inside the car when the ignition key is on, so It seems like the problems keep perpetuating themselves.

Do you have a good ground, this is essential.
I had a broken wire just off the starter on the small wire for the solenoid, about 12 inches back up the line. Damn thing took me a while to find, just a suggestion.

Stupid question, but did you put your batter cables on correctly? Right polarity and all? Smoking is usually a sign of a serious unfused short.. Check the main cables going to the starter, and your ignition fuses and verify your fusable links are good. Now might be a good time to convert to an FC fusebox. Easy to do.
Good luck!

try it by shorting the red and white wire , with the blacak and yellow wire if it starts up its your ignition. remember the first color im giving you is the color all around the second is the stripe make sure the two wires you engage are the ones going to your engine also just turn ur egnition on then try this
