Electrical guys, gimme a push!

Hey Cabbie, gimme a push.......

Okay guys, believe it or not i'm still jacking around with this ignition problem
so far I've replaced: Plugs,Plugwires,Leading Coil, distributor cap, rotor, and the leading igniter. The fuel pump and filter are new and working.I've also deflooded several times, which assures me that i am getting fuel, as the plugs keep getting wet with gas.

I'm starting to think the igniter that the guy at Mazmax sold me is bad

Now, I am electricly retarded, so bear with me for this dumb question. In the FSM, there is a simple circut you must build to test the igniters. Here's the question....
Should these wires be connected? If it isn't, then my igniters are all deffinately bad. If so, shouldnt that grond the lamp causing it to light even if the switch is off?

I know its seems silly, but i'm starting to get stumped and i want to make sure the igniter is bad before i try to take it back, as the Mazda place is a bit of a drive(and my car doesn't start, DOH!)

When there is a little hump like that when wires cross in a wiring schematic, that means not connected. Sometimes when wires cross like that in diagrams, they won't use the hump, but use a dot to mean connected, no dot=not connected.

When you crank the car, have to tried to put the coil wire near the frame of the car to see if you have spark? Most often, the cause of no spark is because of a bad ignitor (assuming everything is wired correctly and is getting power).

Thanks addict. Yes, i alredy checked for spark that way, as well as hooking up a timing light...no dukes. I built the circut the correct way and tested it, and it seems that the replacement igniter i bought is bad . Hopefully i can make the drive out to the place this week and get a new working one. for all this trouble i'm thinking i should have just bought a new one.

Thanks again, I'll be back if a new igniter doesn't do the trick LOL

New Mazda ones are stupid expensive. If you have a hard time getting a good used one, look into doing the GM HEI ignitor mod. They are only $16 each NEW and are stocked in almost every autoparts stores. Check it out.

trailing ignitor

You could try swapping the ignitors.
have you checked to see if you have spark on the trailing?
Is there 12 volts to the coils?

swapping the igniters won't help, simply because i have been running without trailing ignition (because of a bad j109) for quite some time. I just read through the GM igniter how to again, and it seems pretty easy after all the work ive been doing on my ignition. I think I'll try it tomarrow or sunday and see how it works out for me.

BTW, blwfly said he used 12 guage wire...seems to me a smaller wire like a 14 or 16 guage should work fine.....now tell me why i'm wrong so I don't do something stupid (like drive a honda...)
