Electric fan for 12a.........

Alright, I've heard that switching to an electric fan will get rid of my belt slipping problems so........... what size fan should I go with????? And pics would be great!!! I switched to a double sheave pulley but it still stretches the belts within just a hundred mile and I'm getting mad. I'm hoping this will do it. Thanks guys.
Eric

Look a the bottom of the screen, you will see a very long thread on electric fans.

Also do a search with the term Electric fan, there was one just this week again.

As far as your slipping problem, that is usually attributed to the quality of the belt.

I have never had a slippage issue and have run one belt on all of my 7's for over 20 years. :-)

mine's from a '93 mitzubishi galant. can't remember if it's the cooling fan or the condensor fan. i needed the thinest possible since i'm running a 13b and rad from an rx4. there's other pix of it on the site, this was the first one i found.

edit: found the thread with my other pix.

I noticed that when I turn off my fan, wait a few seconds and turn it back on, the idle dips down for a second then goes back up.

Taurus fan user here. I'll never go back to clutch

it's just the instantanious amp draw. like when ur sitting in ur house and the a/c comes on and the lights dim for a split second. i was running 100W aviation/marine lights in the high beams of my 808. at idle, the rpm's would drop a few hundred when i'd turn them on. those on-coming cars with their lights on bright, i showed them what bright REALLY was.

Once you do the electric fan...if it still slips switch over to a dual belt set-up...that should fix the problem if removing the clutch type fan doesnt.

With dual belts you are supposed to run what is called a "Matched" set of belts. there is a cut or production number that is on the belts, they are supposed to match.

Like others have stated check the operation of the fan clutch. Make sure that it is not engaged all the time.

When the engine is cool there should be very little resistance when you spin the fan. If it is difficult to turn or feels very stiff after you turn it by hand a few times then it is staying engaged all the time. You should also be able to hear it when it is engaged.

hey there, i'm using 2 10" fans mounted on the engine-side of the radiator, controlled manually by a switch inside (the old cruise-control switch in the centre console of my seven), never had an issue so far and by doing this i did notice that the motor revved alot free-er and easier...

The problem with running a manual switch is that you only need to forget about it one time to lose a motor. Even I don't trust myself that much.

You think I didn't get two of the same belts?!?!?! lol Of course I got the same belts!!!! We had a bunch of "new" belts in our shop so I got the SAME numbers. The reason I say "new" is they are "new" but their a bit old......... so that also could be my stretching belts prob............... And yes I can hear my clutch fan ingaging and disingaging so it's not sticking.

Gilmer are super wide belts with teeth kind of. They make alot of timing belts for biongers.

Some guys run with them. I personally cant handle the whine of it (sounds similar to supercharger). And there is alot of controversy of whether they are any good or not.

Warwickben has a thread called look at my gilmer kit or something along those lines with some video and pics/
